Age verification?

I saw a recent post with adult content (not a biggie, btw) and thought i'd check out the forum. a bit down the list of rules is 'if you're under 13 you shouldn't use this forum.' but this is in the forum rules, so i don't think a 10 year old who gets this far would then say, 'oh i'd better get out.'

so my question is about what paradox does regarding age verification etc. i can't remember whether a date of birth is compulsory when you first sign up.
