I got Anno 1404 on GOG but haven't installed it yet. Then again, I have a ton of games I've never even installed. I think I'm becoming a hoarder.

More than 50% of the games in my library have never been installed. My buddy comes over for a LAN party. Tells me to buy a game. I do. We play something else. Rinse and repeat. Now I am a hoarder too.

It has become obvious to me that the group here in the forums responding are much older than the casual players who never make it onto the forums in the first place. From the responses so far I think the average age is somewhere in the forties.
I've been playing the Civilization series (and HOI1 when it appeared) since they came out. I'll be 73 this year and I still enjoy turn based, complex strategy games. I purchased HOI4 three weeks ago and am still grappling with the mechanics. I'm glad to see there are others in my age bracket still playing.

Humble Bundles make me one... Currently I own a little more than 1000 games of which I played only a fraction.
Whatever, I'm in my mid 30s and play video games since my father got a NES for Christmas. Needless to say that over some time the console made a de jure shift - so it was considered mine eventually
The first war game was Risk - again with my father. We still occassionally play a game or two. Some time ago I introduced him to Axis & Allies.
The first strategy game on computer I played was Command and Conquer. I can't really remember if it was Red Alert or Tiberian Dawn, though. I DO remember that I played more Red Alert. The setting was (and still is) more apealing to me.
Then came Warcraft II.
And Age of Empires
And Starcraft
And Anno 1602
And MoO2
And... and... and...
I once had a game collection ("Play the Games Volume 2" or something like that) which included Europa Universalis. The game sounded interesting but I didn't really get it and after quiet short time I quit.
Hearts of Iron is a game I found out about very late.
Jump to 2010 or so. I started playing World of Tanks. And in the forum there were some guys posting screenshots form a game that looked exactly like what I was looking for. It was set in WW2 and on the screenshots Germany just repelled a naval invasion from UK at Wilhelmshaven.
After some time I found out that this was Hearts of Iron III.
At that time I knew Paradox only from their published games (most notably Mount & Blade).
I'm 33 and started HoI 4 a couple of years ago. In general, I like to play strategy and management games. Another example of a game I like to play a lot is Football Manager. I like to make decisions, plan ahead, strategize.

At 10 that's young but good to see! My son started at 14, he's very good, but gamey, takes all the angles. I'm 50 and try to play historical with lots of flavor and enjoy the time period of the game.

Also quarantine has been great at helping me get my backlog. Only 60 games left to go! (Though with some of theme being monsters like witcher 3 and neir automata, and my play time being limited by **** family also being home it's still slow progress.)

I'm 50, and I'm the opposite. I studied WWII as a hobby for about the last 40 years; i.e. since I was 10. I don't care for all the historical 'straitjacket' mods and the fun police. I already know what happened in the real world. I'm interested in what could have happened...

Cheaper than Prevagen and more fun than sudoku. Got to keep the brain cells clicking once you pass 50 and you can't quite manage those little cardboard counters anymore. Played my first wargame back in 1969ish, haven't stopped yet.

Same here, 67. I've always liked games, especially war games. I started with Avalon Hill boardgames and later on computers gave a whole new aspect to games.

Bought the original in 2002 and still playing the series, I'm 48 now.
Just about all the problems complained about now we're complained about then. Subs, AI, island hoping and the Chinese front have never worked right

If I really want detailed simulation, I play Command: Modern Operations. A big scenario in that can take days, especially if ASW is involved.
