Why you keep pairing races with secret techs like Vanguard-Promethean and Kir'ko-Xenoplague? There is a reason they are separate and can be mixed in any combination.

Because it feels redundant to show off Promethean twice?

I read his question as asking why they were sticking to "obvious" combinations.

However, we don't know what tech they'll show.

I'm guessing an already revealed tech because they want the attention to be on the race, and not on new tech info.

Edit : well I was wrong about that!

Celestial tech woohoo!

And I was wrong about what celestian would be.

I thought it would be some hug everyone tech based on pheromones.

Instead it's psionically dominate others.

I find it pretty cool that, so far, each tech and race can be (very roughly) summed up in a few words:

Vanguard = Human.
Promethean = fire
Kirko = wounded psionic insect hive
Celestian = psionic harmony
Dvar = preserved foodstuffs
Amazon = Na'avi bio engineers.
Xenoplague= mutated plants (and animals? )
Assembly = cyborgs

Etc.

Add the mechanical damage each Race and tech gives and it allows, imho, for a clearer parsing of what things do what.

Celestian is psionic and thermal.

Vanguard is kinetic.

So Vanguard Celestian would give you 3 damage channels iirc.

Actually each race gets 2 damage channels right? So 4 damage channels.

I wonder if one of the techs has no damage channels but loads of other stuff, I'm thinking a tech focused on stealth and misdirection, aka "rogue."(maybe sis is this?)

i'm kinda seeing a trend here.
1 race per month. The spotlighted race gets a live gameplay on that month.
Which means we have 4 months to go until every devdiary is released. Food for thought.

Optimistic!

Anyway, I enjoyed this stream more than the last.

Feedback from the girlfriend who was watching it with me:

Doesn't like bugs, because she just hates cockroaches irl.

Thinks the game looks amazing.

Wanted to know if you had your own art team or outsourced it.

Was baffled by all the moving parts in the combat, and the complexity.

Was confused as to why you let 2 t3 units die.

Thought the emergent were "super cute."

Agreed with me that it was cool to see the movement radiuses (radii?) And also a projection of damage.

Thought it was amazing that Ravenous could eat a unit (and she predicted it'd restore health before I could say anything) and awesome that you got a free unit.

For my part :

I think you could have lost fewer troops, and saved your tormented.

Celestian tech looks so cool.

Your chosen combination gave you psionic *2, thermal and whatever the other kirko base damage is.

So you were kind of hard countered by Vanguard promethean. And probably by DVAR too.

Which is why it made sense buying the paragon .

But it would have made more sense to buy *more* paragon, especially considering the chest enabled energy and cosmite stockpile you had.

Being able to buy units from a dwelling/indie city is goddamed cool and the interface looks slick.
Those celestian units look and seem to be amazing.

One had 87 health- high?

I'm not quite sure what the aegis tank shield does-protect against fire? energy? Are there energy weapons in the game?

I thought the promethean infantry were going to be flamethrowers, I. E. Conal area of effect. Is there a promethean that does this? Am I thinking of the Walker maybe?

Anyway I'm not quite sure I like the plasma bolts they dealt. They also seemed a bit...I don't know, weak, underwhelming somehow.

I'll probably change my mind after I watch the video again.

I like your little hint that the next stream will be DVAR.

And I'm guessing on the same map.

I found it interesting that rivers are now a Base terrain and not an obstacle as such.

Open water still requires a version of seafaring.

Lastly, the underwater units look cool.

@BloodyBattleBrain
-- Considering Kir'Ko without any Secret Techs can already deal all damage channels(Psionic -> Thermal/Bio, and Bio -> Thermal/Arc, in addition to innate Kinetic/Psionic/Bio), they may be tricky to 'hard counter'. Although, yes, they generally will do a bit worse against Mechanical Units overall, compared to probably any other Faction.

-- 87 Health was a max rank version of the unit. Consider that a Frenzied gained 16 health from being max rank, the T3 Star Guide unit probably has a base of either 55 (gaining twice the bonus health of a T1, at 32 health, but 55 seems high for a Support-type), or maybe down to 45 + 42?

-- The Aegis's shield aura provides +2 Shields(and maybe +3 Thermal Resistance?) to allies in a 1 hex radius around it. In regards to the Thermal Resistance, it's just a guess, since the Aegis Tank had 3 less Thermal Resistance and 2 lower Shield rating, compared to the Promethean dev diary.

-- Phoenix Walker has a flamethrower.

-- Don't forget that Plasma Bolts can light enemies on fire(and DoT damage is more useful this time around).

That was a joy to watch. Learned lots of new stuff. Most of it pointed out by BBB already. I'll have to say once again that the visuals of the game look really awesome. The upgraded engine really shines through.

The UI really looks slick. Lots of things are recognizable from AoW but everything has been polished. TC was already a class of its own, but it looks like for Planetfall you're extending your lead by another mile!

@Fenraellis what are the kirko Base damage channels again?

Psionic and ?

I know in theory every race can get access to every damage channel but I imagine what you start with will be what you use for most of the game, making the choice of secret tech oh so juicy.

I'll start the stream up again and answer my own question now.

Edit: and lennart linked it.

Bio and psi are the basic kirko damage groups.☺
