Each faction you show us is much better than the previous. Love what I saw of the Dvar. But I hope Vanguard has/will have lots of cool stuff we haven't seen yet because imo they looks pretty boring and simple compared to Dvar.

My thoughts and questions from the Stream:
Are Moons going to play any roll in the game? We keep seeing them.
Merchant Scion trait is new?
How is spending points on a vehicle load out balanced against hopping in a vehicle later in the game?
Still no indicator about what annexing a sector will add to our colony?
I don't really understand why the Spacers are called Spacers.
Ads while watching the stream playback sucked.
A dead unit got a promotion?
What does priming an operation do? Is this a casting time equivalent?
A spacefaring people not being able to claim a mountain sector seems a bit weird. Maybe just have it unlockable via research?
Not sure that having to kill a unit summoned in combat to finish the battle is helpful.

A dead unit got a promotion?

Units get promotions during battle, which are immediately effective. If they die afterwards, that shows up in the post-battle screen.

(regarding that, I can't remember any visual indicators during the battle when units got promoted. Did I just miss them or are they not implemented yet?)

With all the units sharing all experience in equal parts, it would seem that promotions become effective only after battle and (other than in the Disciples series) the share of a unit that dies in battle is simply lost.

Wait, units share experience now? I missed that.

Don't like the change from prior games though...

Tombles said this in Dev Diary 5:

Right now, there's only unit killed XP. The XP is equally divided between all participants of the fight though, so you don't need to do tricks to try and get your support people to get kills.
I actually shared my displeasure with that as well.
To be fair, I think you can make a point for both sides, but the bottom line is, that with a system like that you don't need to take all kinds of measures to avoid exploiting the system while support units (that is, units who don't do much except lending a helping hand) will get their fare share from the fights as well without needing to resort to shenannigans.

Additionally, with the new Mod feature, unit upgrades won't be that important a part of the game anymore.

I'd say Age of Wonders III, if it didn't do it properly, at least made some good steps into the right direction by allowing units to gain experience for things like healing. Perhaps you could even give slightly higher XP (like 1.5 or 2 times more) to single-shot actions compared to 3-shot actions to even it out a little further.

I think what it came down to was that it is really complicated to make a realistic but not exploitable (or micromanagey) system.
So just go with a simple one that still works well, and spend the extra effort elsewhere.

In AoW 3 you do get double XP for 1-shot abilitie (say, Crossbow), and using touch abilities also gives double action XP.

I don't think, making it "micromanagery" is wrong, because in a system like that used in AoW 3, with unlimited upgrades, but limited amount of XP, XP is just a resource like everything else, and getting the most out of it is essentially not different from picking your settlement place. There is nothing wrong with getting more out of battles when you put more effort into it. It just shouldn't be exploitable, yes, but otherwise, getting more XP out of your battles has something to do with SKILL

The problem is, the moment you realize that XP is in fact A RESOURCE, it has to become part of the game's "difficulty structure" - if you CAN play to maximize the gain of that resource, then playing on higher difficulty means, players have to actually be good at that or don't get very far, and that's where it starts to become a problem, because clearly this is putting a lot of emphasizing on the battle part of the game which is probably unwise if you want to cater to a broader public.

Additionally, with the new Mod feature, unit upgrades won't be that important a part of the game anymore.
A minor point to the fact units will have Elite rank ability bonuses(things like 'ignore overwatch' or 'critical chance', as opposed to normal unit abilities, for the most part, it seems), but yes, without Champion levels, or experience funneling, focusing experience like that is less important. Heroes can still gain experience, of course. Although I wonder if they're going for a max level of 20(map settings up to 30, again?), the same as AoW3. It's all relative, of course.
