If you want to make mortality realistic, the effect of seasons would be necessary. Children born in winter often died along with their mother. The old saying here goes: Wedding in May, bride will go away (not good, but at least this translation rhymes)

I don't really think CK1 was that bad in this whole regard. Sure you could end up with 7 kids all surviving into adulthood (other times I ended up with one kid out of 5 surviving into adulthood) but I on avergage lost around 20 % of my characters kids IIRC. I don't know if mortality should be that much higher.

I've tweaked CK1 to where I am comfortable with it (on childhood_mortality events or whatnot), and I guess I'll do the same in CK2. That is one aspect that should be left up to the player I think.
