I haven’t seen it. Do the characters directly state they are below 18 and are shown fully nude in a sexual context? It doesn’t matter if it’s implied that they’re underage. It has to be directly stated. And there are specific guidelines about what qualifies as “fully nude” and “sexual context.” Again, I haven’t seen it, but the law is in a gray area, so lots of places get around it.
I don't know about everywhere, but it's not a gray area in America, it's explicitly legal. The definition of child pornography requires both that the minor is real and that genitals are exhibited, and neither is true in CK3. I don't know about every other country, but I really doubt there'd be legal problems in many countries where there aren't already legal problems from the boobs and homosexuality.

Considering the lengths Paradox went through with HOI4 to make a German law compliant version of the game, I completely agree.
A lot of this stuff is more about self-censorship in the face of ambiguous laws rather than what is strictly demanded

Contrary to what many people think there is no law explicitly banning videos games from using swastikas. It's that the use of Nazi symbols is banned in general. Except for certain cases like education, documentation and art. Movies have no issues because they are always considered art. No matter how bad they are. The issue is more that video games aren't legally considered art, so there is no exception for them. A specifically educational game on the other hand could probably get away with using Nazi symbols these days.
And if a publisher were to actually gamble and risk a court case they'd probably win. With the increased acceptance of video games into mainstream culture, there is a good chance that they'd be put on the same level as movies. But of course with so much money at stake they err in the side of caution and censor. Legal cases cost a lot of money and time. Even if they are ultimately right, the game would be banned first and then unbanned again. That's a lot of lost money. So their behavior is perfectly understandable from an economic perspective

It's the same here. If anything is censored (which is pure speculation though) it's because they are overly cautious.

IIRC the UK quite firmly considered drawn and CGI images of children to fall into the same category as real ones.

I'm not sure about other countries, but I don't fancy getting *that* search all over my history.

Let's not blame the U.S. for this one. It has the strongest free speech protection in the world, by far.
With huge loopholes specifically when it comes to nudity. You just need to declare something "obscene" - which is open to wide interpretation by judges - and free speech no longer applies.

But, otherwise yeah, it's not just a US issue. There are some countries with laws that specifically ban simulated nudity with minors. But those are really aimed at pornography. And that may require that the intent of the picture is sexual arousal. It's hard to generalize there. Again, the issue can be that video game publishers would rather not risk anything even if it's legally ok

Gonna need a source on that. I remember reading somewhere that the genitals aren't shown and is instead replaced by fig leafs.

Except if they've suddenly come back from this a couple months ago, this was one of the earliest sources.

Personally I could be without nudity in the game, I don’t see the appeal of seeing naked grandpa whatshisname of 87 :)p), but as for the OP’s concern, this is a Swedish game and in Scandinavia the sexual age of consent is 16. So perhaps PDS follows the Swedish laws since it’s a Swedish company.

The age of consent in Sweden is 15, but the age of legally being depicted is 18.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's just the upper body. The lower part is covered with a fig leaf.
The whole 'Full nudity with penis and stuff' is originally from the same source which said that Deus Vult was removed so I wouldn't trust that very much.
I know there's a programmer for CK3 who said that it was only fig leafs in a reddit post. I'm gonna have to look for that.

Indeed pixels showcasing a nude 16 year old, is problematic.. lets censor it.

Meanwhile in England, a count gone mad, is drowning his brothers two 6 year olds kids, to keep pretenders from his realm.... nothing to see here

Laws aren’t necessary logical or even consistent with each other. There is no use in trying to argue here about them. They are like they are and especially in this area not likely to change.
So, I would say we trust Paradox and assume they checked the relevant laws in the countries they distribute the game in and changed the game versions accordingly.

I don´t actually think people understand the sarcasm in my post! Most of us don´t want a game overly censored due to regional or national laws in a few countries/regions, in those situations, we will simply have to see a censored version in that affected area! That is my point..
The laws are sometimes silly, I know we can´t do anything about them, but that does not mean we can´t point out the fact about how silly it is... Even more so when we talk about something natural contra something that is very frown upon.

I agree that they already know what countries need censored versions or what countries wont care, because yes.... depending on the games size and hype, you will also see alot of different rulings, you have games that should be censored but are not, because they are small and nobody cares, then you have big hyped gmaes with something that triggers a certain group, that will make them demand a censorship or removal.

I don´t think and am fairly certain, Paradox does not make games based on alot of specific laws, instead they look at the broader scope and for special cases, make another "censored" copy for the affected country. Personally I am all for creative freedom

I just don't want to see naked kids, man.
