I recently downloaded AGCEEP 1.39Base and MyMap2 and followed these instrcutions:

Installation Guide:

Install EU2
Install last patch eu2_eng_v108.exe
Install last beta patch eu2_108b_21stApr2005.zip
Install AGCEEP 1.38 (don't use deluxe edition) into your EU2 directory
Install MyMAPv2.exe into your EU2 directory
Rename or move Map directory from AGCEEP directory if it exists (comes with deluxe edition)
If you have MyMAP already installed you only need latest patch

Install MyMAP-AGCEEP.exe into your EU2 directory

I did everything exactly as described, and checked to make sure I have the 1419m scenario and 1419m.inc file. Yet every time I try to play AGCEEP or even EU2 normally, the game crashes while loading the initial graphics. I never even get to the starting menu.

I didn't have MyMap previously, so I didn't need the last patch as listed. After failing without it, I added it but still failed. Plus I have renamed the map directory/moved it. So what might the problem be?

Thanks in advance for any solutions. :)

I have had a problem, but not the same one. I uninstalled everything, reinstalled EU from CD, then patch 1.09, then AGCEEP 1.39 Basic, then MyMap v2. I renamed the AGCEEP\map directory and also renamed the avi directory. I have had issues with missing files when trying to short-cut this, so I'd recommend a complete uninstall (MyMap, then AGCEEP, then EU) before installing from scratch.

My install starts up ok, and gets to the scenario selection menu, but generates errors on loading the 1419 MyMap scenario.

I got an error regarding AGCEEP_Global_DP_Sliders.eue. To fix this, edit the AGCEEP\db\events.txt file and comment out the line which calls AGCEEP_Global_DP_Sliders.eue. If you want DP reminders, cut and paste the last few lines from AGCEEP\scenarios\1419.inc to the end of 1419m.inc and from 1520.inc to 1520m.inc and 1648.inc to 1648m.inc

Next, AGCEEP 1.39 renamed Safavid_Persia to Safavids, so you need to edit AGCEEP\db\events.txt to change the line
event = "AGCEEP\Events\AGCEEP_Specific_Safavid_Persia.eue"
to read
event = "AGCEEP\Events\AGCEEP_Specific_Safavids.eue"

The same problem with Timurid_Empire and Timurids (although you won't get an error message for this as MyMap-supplied AGCEEP\Events\AGCEEP_Specific_Timurid_Empire.eue exists as well as the AGCEEP-supplied AGCEEP_Specific_Timurids.eue.) I didn't bother fixing this, but to do so copy AGCEEP_Specific_Timurid_Empire.eue to AGCEEP_Specific_Timurids.eue and edit event.txt, replacing Timurid_Empire by Timurids. Not doing so will probably result in weird shit happening.

Lastly the file AGCEEP\Events\AGCEEP_Specific_Holland.eue needs to have the events in the range 1864xx deleted because these are included in the Netherlands file as well.

At this point I still get an error regarding event 3706, but I can click past that and start the 1419 MyMap scenario.

Does this work for anyone else ? And what's the issue with the Milan 3706 event ?

Cheers,

Angus

Okay, renaming the AGCEEP map directory and renaming the avi directory didn't help. I still crash upon loading while it's initializing graphics before the main menu.

I'd like to see some other suggestions to help so that I can try to play these versions. Otherwise, I guess I'll have to be disappointed.

This couldn't be caused by my PC, could it? It has Windows 98SE.

Make sure you are targetting the right and same directory when doing all your installations.

Not exactly sure what that last statement means, as I can be a little PC dumb. :p

After installing EU2, I installed the 1.08 and 1.08Beta patches into Program Files>Strategy First>Europa Universalis 2. Afterwards I installed the AGCEEP1.38Base in the same place, then MyMap2 likewise. I even removed, renamed, and/or left alone the AGCEEP Map directory just to see if any of those options worked.

So am I taking something simple and messing it up? I could be, I admit that. So does this help figure out what's going on?

Thanks again. :)

It can only be that you made a mistake along the way in your installation. You might have to try a completely new install again.
A crash when the game is initializing usually relates to the game's graphics, ie the new map. Make sure you are indeed unzipping the latest beta patch (April) into your EU2 directory, because not doing that or installing an older beta patch will not let the new map work.
