I just downloaded AGCEEP and I have been using vanilla for probably about 4-5 years. I noticed when playing Portugal in the Grand Campaign that I didn't get any explorers right away. Is their something wrong with my game or do I just have to wait longer. Because in vanilla, you start out with either Vasco de Gama or Bartolemeu Dias (forget which one I always get those two mixed up) Help please. Thank You

In vanilla were you playing the age of exploration scenario? That begins in 1492 when those explorers were around historically. AGCEEP doesn't have a scenario beginning at that date, it starts in 1419. You therefore have to wait until (I can't remember the exact date) about the 1450's or 60's when the first explorers start showing up.

I'm not a massive fan of the AGCEEP events for Portugal as it feels like the expansion is too scripted.

it isn't mostly.... there're few provinces you may get through events, but you don't have to agree.
Too scripted means no b choice or b choice similar to a. ;)

That's because the events are mostly intended to guide the AI in colonizations. Has a nasty side-effect of seeming to deterministic for the human player. It's a price to pay for trying to get accuracy out of an erratic AI.

Things like gaining Kongo as a vassal and then being able to annex them and gaining provinces on the east coast of Africa. I realise that you can say no however I like to choose the most favourable options and this leaves me with an empire that has basically been built through events.

The problem with Portugal is that you can't really do what they did historically without events like that. And if the AI can't get events like that then he sucks, when in real life Portugal was quite strong.

Other countries get these kinds of events too. For example Austria and/or Spain gets Burgundy. Austria gets Hungary etc. Does playing these countries suck too? How bout Spain getting Portugal as vassal? Does that suck as Spain? Or is it just when Portugal gets these types of historical events it sucks?

BTW, I'm the one who made Portugal getting Kongo as a vassal. :D

I didn't like it too much either. I don't like how you start out at war with North African nations. I understand that's historical, and that's fine, but I don't want North African provinces. Anybody have any suggestions on what good countries to play in AGCEEP?

I don't mind that the events are there and I like it that Portugal does expand well when under AI control however I dislike playing as them. Ironically I don't really enjoy playing as Spain or Austria that much either as Austria has a lot of event expansion and Spain can quickly eliminate their natural enemies. Currently I prefer playing nations like Savoy or Milan as they can create Italy and expand elsewhere or minor/medium nations elsewhere.

The events for Portugal are different in that you get given a lot of different areas that are often wrong religion and culture unlike those for Austria. They require a lot of effort to ship troops to to defend and ultimately just aren't that fun.

I don't see the point, these territories are offered to you in historical way like Hungary to OE or Austria, and you don't have to take them, you get the choice!
Besides, I don't think getting Goa or Malacca with their CoTs is that bad. It's hard to defend them, but if it was easy it would be no fun.
As for war against Morocco, you get a choice too. You could vassalize them instead of taking Tanger or just leave them alone. Your initial funds are high enough to finish the war with any result.
After inheriting Ormouz you may release Oman as a vassal. You always get the choice. :)
If you like you may go for fantasy iberia and get rid of Spain early to colonize Americas.

IC. In EP I give Portugal right culture for most of their overseas provinces. So they can conquer alot in the Indies and convert most of the wrong religion provinces, assuming that's how a human EP Portugal player wants to spend his money of course.

Historicity has a limit, even in eu2. I mean, look at the Timurids for example - no matter what, they will give up most of their land to "sucessor states". You must leave a gap between historicity, and fantasy.

About Austria inheriting Hungary/Bohemia/Burgundy, i dont see a problem about it. Do you think if they didnt in real life, Austria would be the dominant german state and the european power they became? And you cant compare the historical importance of the Austrian king inheriting Bohemia or the Spanish King being made Portuguese King as well, with the "Portuguese takeover of Kongo". I am from Portugal and i never ever heard such. While Filipe's II being made a Portuguese King is known everywhere (in Portugal), and even taugh in school.

If these events are to make the AI play historical, then, create a condition making them only for AIs.

Now to answer the main question... Which events i find bad for gameplay? Well, nearly all - no offense to the ones that made em, but the event file needs to be purged.

First of, Henry's captains. I dont consider it the worst event ever seen, nor does it harm the player, but why does the event ever exist (together with the ones that give you explorers)? The event(s) shouldnt exist, and these leaders should pump out at the acordingly date no matter what. I mean, come on, most explorers "required aid" from the monarchs, but that doesnt justify making events for only a bunch of leaders while the others got none.

Second of, events that force you into war with other countries like Malaca or most events regarding India. If we started doing events like these, we should make events for every puny war that hapened in the world during eu2's period. Again, if these events are meant to make the AI play historical, then, add a condition for only AIs.

Thirdly, event like vassalization of Kongo, Zanj and Ternate and so on. These events give these little minors freely as vassals to Portugal without Portugal moving an inch. And honestly, they arent really historical relevant to have been added. Yes, Austria inherits Bohemia and so on without moving an inch as well, but they were really important for history - who cares about a province minor that lays on the middle of nowhere and never contributed anything to mankind?

In other orders, the mod focus on too little minor details that arent really relevant, and then, forgets and fails to add really important things - where is, for example, the Portuguese age of Absolutism? The era where due to gold from Brazil, Portugal rivalized the "Sun King" of France?

And lastly, i dont mean to offend anyone - since i believe whoever made the events really put a lot of effort and time doing em.
