Events are activated in EU at the time of their start date, at witch point the game checks the event's triggers to see if they hold true. If the trigger conditions are met, the event fires at that date. The offset command tells the game to check to see if the trigger conditions are true again after X number of days (so an event with an offset of 30 gets its triggers checked each month until the triggers are met, at which point it fires). The game keeps checking triggers every X days unless the event has a deathdate, which tells the game not to continue checking for triggers if the vent has not fired by its deathdate. Events without specific triggers can be written with both offset and deathdate omitted.

The event should not happen after 'deathdate'+'offset'. As far as I know the check for the deathdate is made before the calculation of the offset, so the event can happen after the deathdate if the check was made before the deathdate.

You don't need event 80003. Instead you can set a flag
'command={type=flag which=capitalmoved}'
in event 80001 and the use the trigger condition
'flag=capitalmoved'
in event 80004

Events that do nothing are sort of annoying, and as long as you don't change the Serbian tag (and maybe even if you do, I'm not sure) this will do exactly what you want.

You don't need to add Slavonic culture in event 80006, Serbia already has it. Maybe add Rumanian?

Why three printing events? In particular can you be confident that event 80008 (which starts in 1497) won't happen before 80007 (which ends in 1502)? If so the event could happen twice, which I think is unintended. I would sleep 80007 in 80008 and sleep both events 80007 and 80008 in event 80009 just to be on the safe side. I think it might be nice to have the effects of the printing delayed, so that If you don't hold onto the province you don't get the DP change.

As presently written event # 80010 is scripted for Ragusa/Zeta to inherit itself, as the country receiving the event also receives whatever action. Ragusa/Zeta's event should give Ragusa/Zeta the option of either asking for Serbian aid (which would fire a Serbian event for the actual inheritance) or to remain independent (which should be choice b) allowing a potential human Ragusa/Zeta not to be inherited). If Ragusa/Zeta isn't added as a country, you could fire the event to simply give Serbia a core on Ragusa province. As for the Serbian migration to the Banat, you could save some time by making a province-specific event that will increase the Banat's population and switch its culture no matter who owns it. Also consider evising some of the events that are nothing but initializers. At least set them to trigger the events they initialize. In game, if you don't want to wait to see your events fire, you can open the F12 console and fire them by typing in "event 80010 (or whatever event you want to fire) RAG."

One fairly important thing: in AGCEEP we try to avoid the WAR command at all costs, it being preferable to give CBs instead. I'd suggest you replace that line with a trigger for a Hungarian event giving a CB for maybe 12 months.

Also, event 80014 seems kind of redundant - there are two events which trigger from it's having happened, but there's no reason why they can't trigger off 80013 instead.

There are some good ideas here, and I'm always happy to see new people getting involved in event scripting. If you need any help with the English, PM me (I'll be away until January, though - spending the holidays with my in-laws).

I like the events you've written so far - many people would give in to the urge to make their favorite country far too powerful, but you've been very restrained, mostly - I'm a bit worried your 'restoration of the empire' will be too powerful - the Serbian player would have as many cultures as the Ottomans. Maybe it should just be cores on the historic provinces? But overall, you're very balanced. The events are interesting without being game-breaking.

A minor point: In AGCEEP, most events are written in past tense if they're historic, present tense if they're not. Also, you should always make the historic choice action_a - right now, you have Beograd overthrowing the Magyars 95% of the time. Maybe there's another way to model how important Beograd was to the Serbs - you said that it was the center of their culture from the 15th century on. Can you explain? I don't understand how this worked if it was controlled by Hungary. Was it conquered by the Ottomans? Was it given back to Serbia? Did the Serbian culture continue to influence Serbia despite sending tribute to Hungary? All of these could be modelled by events. :)

About Ragusa: There are only a limited number of country tags in the game (like TUR for the Ottomans or BUR for Burgundy) and so the High Council usually only gives the tag if the country lasted for a long time or was very important - it sounds like Ragusa wouldn't be either. You could model the conquest of Ragusa by event - give Venice a revoltrisk in Ragusa until they 'conquer' it, and give Venice the choice to give towns to Serbia (increasing population in Serbia, maybe giving them some money) in exchange for lower revolt risk or better relations with Serbia.

Actually, I think that Ragusa was taken out of the ACGEEP because people suggested it was misnamed - the real Ragusa was a very small nation and wasn't actually in the province of Ragusa on the map - so they decided to take it out entirely. I notice this a lot more in Africa, where several provinces are in the wrong place entirely.

By the way, don't forget to write events for Serbia even after the Ottoman conquest. Those events help us remember that provinces have their own history and aren't just part of an empire. If the event depends on muslim influence you could make it an Ottoman event with the trigger owned = { province = (Serbia or Kosovo) data = TUR } and if it doesn't, you could make it province = (Serbia or Kosovo) instead of country = SER. That would make it trigger regardless of who owns the province (you could make it not trigger if Serbia owns it if you want to have events showing intolerance of Serbs). If you don't understand what I'm talking about, please ask! :)

But overall - good job! I'm looking forward to seeing these in the game!

XV century events

The aim is to develop Serbia much faster than in usual campaign. Especially to speed up scientific development ("Obod printing press" and "Greek refugees" events). In standard EUII, orthodox countries suffer from serious tech penatly.

However, concerning Balkan countries, there is no historic reason for such a penalty. Before XV century, Balkan and Greek countries were equally developed as west-europen states. The stagnation from XV to XIX century was a consequence of a mere fact that Balkan orthodox countries DID NOT EXIST AT ALL ! No Serbia, no Byzant, no ... - only Turkey !

Therefore, if Balkan countries can survive Ottoman invasion, they should not suffer too much on their tech development. After all, Serbia was surrounded by so many significant scientific and cultural centres like: Constantinople, Dubrovnik, Rome, Venice, Vienna, Buda.

The most important thing is TO BE INDEPENDENT and not occupied by Turks. In that case, tech progress should not be missed. The proof = Dubrovnik. Athough surrounded by Turkish mainland for more than 300 years, the independent Republic of Dubrovnik had the same scientific and art progress as the rest of Europe. The best example is famous physicist Rudjer Boskovic, making the most important link in atomistic theory, between Democritus and Dalton; and making the first steps in the theory of unification of physical forces.

My oppinion is that Balkan orthodox states should be put into a better tech group, so that they can develop (if they survive). Contrary to Balkan countries, Russia was too far away from both West-European centres and from Greek Constantinople. In addition, during XV and XVI century, Russia still had to fight against Mongols. Taking these facts into account, slower scientific progress in Russia is feasible.

Yes

Thanks a lot for usefull and positive comments.

First, I would like to make full set of events for independent Serbia. Unfortunately, there are not so many historical events from XVI-XIX century that could be used for both occupied and independent Serbia. I will be forced to invent, but not to exaggerate. From my point of view, new west-european styles, like Baroque, Rococo or Classicism should come to independent Serbia in the same moment as they (historically) came to Dubrovnik. That (historically) means WITHOUT ANY TIME LAG. I am already thinking about the following event:

#Joseph Haydn happend to us !#
trigger = {owned = { Schloss Esterhazy }}
random = no
country = SER

Concerning Zeta (Ragusa), I think that the name "Ragusa" is very strange. This part of Balkan was named Zeta or Duklja, and it was a Serbian province. Furthermore, the most important town was already named Dubrovnik (still, latin Ragusa).

The question is: Is town Dubrovnik, "Respublica Ragusina", that made no significant teritorial expansion during 400 years important enough to be represented as a province in EUII ?

Another question: are coastal towns more important then land and inland towns ? In AGC-EEP, Ragusa province was fully given to Venice, although Venice had controll only over several towns at the coast. Lord Balsa of Zeta had control over the land, over inland towns, and in addition also control over several other towns at the coast. Later on, 1421, Zeta was inherited by Serbia and it was part of Serbia until Turkish occupation.

And yet, Ragusa was given to Venice - I can not understand why ?!?

Zeta (aka Montenegro ) looks to be more in the Kosovo province or a little bit south, definitely not Ragusa?

As for the inheritence, Zeta (RAG in this case) should really get the choice to leave the Kingdom to Serbia or not. Balsa had promised the Kingdom to Stephen upon his death, but as a player, you should get the option to reneg on Balsa's promise and face Serbian wrath. Serbia should only get an event after Zeta has made some sort of choice.

I do not argee

Zeta is placed exactely in the border-point between "EU Bosnia, Serbia and Ragusa".

Province of Ragusa in EU map covers southern part of Zeta and northern part of Albania (town Shkoder). "EU Ragusa" is definitely not at the same place as Dubrovnik (Ragusa).

The main part of Montenegro (Zeta) is in the north of "EU Ragusa".

So, "EU Ragusa" could only be:

1. province of Venice - if we put importance on coastal towns;
2. Zeta - if we want to have Serbian "Zeta inheritance event", and to take into account that Serbia definitely had the access to the Adriatic sea in 1423, after winning the war against Venice;
3. new northern Albanian province - if we want to have a second province with this unique albanian culture.

All other combinations (discussed in Balkan forum - like creating "Herzegovina"), have no geographic justification. "EU Ragusa" is placed to much in the south.

Concerning the choice, in my new chain of events, a player has a choice between

a) call Serbia for help (leading to inheritance)
b) fight alone

A joke

My attempt to write events for Serbia was motivated by a lack of Serbian events in the latest AGC-EEP, although a discussion about Balkan states was already done. It seems like that Serbia is a country without a history.

That remmebers me to the following joke:

During the Serbo-American war in spring 1999, a Serbian said to an American:

Serbian guy: "Ah, you, Americans ! You Americans, you do not have HISTORY !"

American replied: "Ah, you, Serbs. You will not have GEOGRAPHY !"

I've heard a similar story, although it was meant more as a witty observation:

To an American, 100 years is a long time.
To an Englishman, 100 miles is a long way.

Insert the countries of your choice, of course - as a Canadian, I can hardly claim to have as long (and as well-documented) a history as Europe.

I saw this first-hand when I lived in Japan - the people around me were nonchalant about 1,000 year-old temples next to them, while I was amazed. But when I talked about driving to Florida one summer with my parents they couldn't believe me!

Now, to get back on topic: Ragusa.

Ragusa was taken out of the game because it hardly affected the game, and as a 1-province minor that several nations had shields on, it always disappeared quickly. Many 1-province minor nations were removed from the game at the same time (although a few were added, like Foix and the Irish minors - this was very controversial!!).

Also, Venice was performing very badly - it was often conquered by the Ottomans in the 15th century, which wasn't historical or balanced. Giving them an additional province (Ragusa) helped, and there was some justification for it.

Because it's a coastal province, owning Ragusa would help Serbia a lot more than it would help Venice. Serbia is landlocked right now, so it can't colonize, can't trade in non-European CoTs and would get 1 more merchant per year if it had a coastal province - all in addition to any taxes and manpower from Ragusa. Serbia was landlocked, wasn't it?

Isaac Brock discusses Ragusa's cultural change
here. It's considered to be the Albanian province/city of Scutari because of its location.

This shouldn't stop you from writing events about the country! Some events, such as Foix's inheritance events or my Songhai events that add Air and Agades to Songhai, can't be portrayed on the map (Foix because it's too small, Songhai because the area is in 'Terra Incognita') so they are represented by higher populations and taxvalues in a nearby province.

Ok

Then I will write a simple version of "Zeta inheritance event", to be in accordance with AGCEEP principles. As Zeta is located exactely at the border-point between EU Bosnia, Serbia and Kosovo, I will increase tax value, population and manpower in Serbia and/or Kosovo, while decreasing it in Ragusa. Venice would still have the province (represented by major coastal towns), but with quite small population etc.

Well, it is true that Serbia was more concentrated on land. Even during Dusan's Empire, Serbia did not occupy Dubrovnik or Thessaloniki. Dusan's Empire had a lot of coastal towns, but Dusan died quite soon and the state dissapeared - Serbia could not benefit from the access to the sea at all :(

Now that I've had time to read the entire thread.... :) The new inheritance events look better. I have a suggestion. Looking back over my maps, you are correct, Zeta is mostly in the Ragusa province, but modern Montenegro seems to be mostly in the Kosovo province. ( if my eyes are correct ). Why not call the new tag "Montenegro" and have it start in the province of Ragusa functioning as Zeta. Than later it can be a revolter in the Kosovo province? Not the perfect solution, just an idea. ( Montenegren and Zetan arms are practically identical, so no problems with gfx )

Serbia can really use some events. Are you still planning three separate Obod printing manufactory events? They can raise innovativeness by 6. Or do you suggest 2 as in the list above? I don't understand why there should be more than one really.

"Restore The Empire of Tsar Stefan Dusan", along with the old "Fall of Constantinople, the Serbian reaction" and "Restore Byzantium" all ought to go into the fantasy option. You seemed to have a reasonable idea on one of the old ones, to remove it? Might make sense.

Reactivated

HI ALL.

I want to reactivate this site, and write several main and flavour events for Serbia, for AGC-EEP . And , to finish this this month or in May. (come on Igor, do not be lazy).

Criterias for events:

1. to be compatible with the newest AGC-EEP situation
2. to be simple
3. to be historic or at least fantasy-historic. I will not write pure fantasy events.

First:
1. AGC-EEP situation:

Serbia has 2 provinces:

Serbia (Smederevo) - I would like to change this back to Beograd
(reasons given later)
Kosovo (Ras)

Neighbours:
- Bosnia: CB(SER on BOS), R=-175 - OK
- TUR CB(TUR on SER), R=-175 - OK
- HUN Serbia is vassal , military alliance, R=+150 - OK
- Wallachia R=+100 - OK
- Moldavia R=+170 - OK
- Albania R = -37 - OK
- Byzant R=+170 - OK
- Venice R= 0 - relatively OK (relations could be even negative)

provinces:

Banat (HUN)- magyar-catholic
- important note: Despot Stefan had a lot of land and other possessions in Bant, and even administrative rule. During this time, a lot of Serbs were settled in Banat. The migration was even larger after the fall of Serbia (I will make an event). I propose that Banat should become slavonic and/or orthodox after some future events.

Ragusa (VEN) - Scutary, albanian , orthodox
This province is tricky. In Mongol Empire Scenario, this province is refered as slavonic state Zeta (Montenegro - Crna Gora). For me is also important to have Zeta, because of "Zeta inheritance event". However, as I want to stick to current AGC-EEP version, I will make only some population changes in Ragusa and in Kosovo. Historically, the area of "EUII-Ragusa" was occupied by Zeta (later inherited by Serbia), by Republic of Dubrovnik (tooo small to be represented in AGC-EEP), and some coastal town by Venice.

Inharitance of Zeta - simple version

In this simple version of Zeta event, Venice (or whoever owns Ragusa) will kep this province, but loose population, manpower and tax value. Serbian povince Kosovo (if owned) will gain population, manpower and tax value:

1. SERbian state event - triggered if Kosovo is still owned

#The inheritance of Zeta - SER#
event = {
id = 00001
trigger = {
owned = { province = 363 data = -1 } #Kosovo
NOT={owned = { province = 362 data = -1 }} #Ragusa
}
}
random = no
country = SER
name = "The inheritance of Zeta"
desc = "After several years of fight against Venice, the leader of Zeta, Lord Balsa III, came to Beograd to ask his uncle Despot Stefan Lazarevic’ for help. However, already seriously ill for a long time, Lord Balsa died on 28-th April 1421. Despot Stefan inherited Zeta, and continued the war against Venice, which already controled several coastal towns: Drivast, Bar and Unlcinj. 2. Building of Smederevo - simple version

BUILDING NEW CAPITAL SMEDEREVO

#############################

As Serbia was correctly made a Hungarian vassal in AGC-EEP, it is possible to write this event, related to building of Smederevo.

I would like to comment on the town of province of Serbia in current AGC-EEP. It is put to be Smederevo. My proposal is to name it back to Beograd, like in original EUII.

Historical reason:

- in 1419, Beograd was the capital, not Smederevo.
- the big fortress of Smederevo was built 10 years later.
- Smederevo was capital of Serbia only 20 years. Later, Serbia was occupied by Turks.
- Turks captured Beograd in 1521, and made it again the capital of their province
- after liberation in 1804, Beograd became capital of new Serbia

Game reasons:
- athough Serbia is vassal of Hungary in 1419, a skilful player would (for sure) break this status very soon. So, after breaking vassalisation, the player would have no reason to give Beograd back to Hungary and to buil Smederevo at all. The capitl would remain in Beograd, and "Smederevo event" would not appear.
- if Serbia is run by AI, such weak state would be annexed very soon (by HUN or by TUR), and Beograd would again be the capital of the province.

Therefore, I recommend to name the Serbian town back to Beograd.

Here are the "Smederevo events", that are trigerred ONLY IF Serbia is still vassal of Hungary.

3. - if Smederevo is built, population in Serbia is decreased and fortress expnded.
- if demand is rejected, vassal status is broken

#Build Smederevo#
event = {
id = 00003
trigger = {
NOT = {war = { country = SER country = HUN} }
vassal = {country=HUN country=SER} # if SER is still vassal of HUN
}

country = SER
name = "Smederevo – the new capital"
desc = "According to the vassal agreement of old Despot Stefan Lazarevic’ with Hungarian King Szigmond, Serbia must give back the keys of Beograd. The capital should move to another town."
style = 1
date = { day = 1 month = june year = 1427 }
offset = 100
deathdate = { day = 1 month = june year = 1432 }
action_a = {
name = "Leave Beograd and build Smederevo"
command = { type = provincetax which = 355 value = -1 } #Serbia
command = { type = provincemanpower which = 355 value = -1 } #Serbia
command = { type = population which = 355 value = -5000 } #Serbia
command = { type = fortress which = 355 value = 1 } #Serbia
command = { type = cash value = -100 }

MODIFICATION

3. - if Smederevo is built, population in Serbia is decreased and fortress expnded.
- if demand is rejected, vassal status is broken

Schould we move our capital to another town ?"

command = { type = relation which = HUN value = -100 }
command = { type = breakvassal which = HUN }
command = { type = stability value = 5}
command = { type = sleepevent which = 00004 }
command = { type = sleepevent which = 00005 }
}
action_c = {

command = { type = stability value = 5}
command = { type = sleepevent which = 00004 }
command = { type = sleepevent which = 00005 }
}
}

4. - if Beograd is given, population of Banat is increased
by 2000, and fortress is added

#Build Smederevo - HUN#
event = {
id = 00004
trigger = {
event = 00003
owned = { province = 354 data = -1 } #Banat
}
random = no
country = HUN
name = "We got Beograd back"
desc = "According to the vassal agreement of old Serbian Despot Stefan Lazarevic’ with Hungarian King Szigmond, Serbia must give back the keys of Beograd. The Serbian capital is moved to Smederevo."
style = 1
date = { day = 3 month = june year = 1427 }
offset = 100
deathdate = { day = 1 month = june year = 1432 }
action_a = {
name = "Beograd is part of Banat province"
command = { type = provincetax which = 354 value = 1 } #Banat
command = { type = provincemanpower which = 354 value = 1 } #Banat
command = { type = population which = 354 value = 2000 } #Banat
command = { type = fortress which = 354 value = 1 } #Banat
}
}

5.
And, finally, one fantasy-historic event. If a Serbian player (or even AI) eventually captures province of Banat, after Beograd was given back to Hungary, Beograd could again become the main town in Serbia. This event is just simultaneous decrease/increase of population in Banat/Serbia - and exchanging fortresses.

#Smederevo Beograd - SER#
event = {
id = 00005
trigger = {
event = 00004
owned = { province = 354 data = -1 } #Banat
}
random = no
country = SER
name = "We got Beograd back"
desc = "After capturing the province of Banat, Beograd can again become the main town in Serbia."
style = 1
date = { day = 3 month = june year = 1427 }
offset = 200
deathdate = { day = 1 month = june year = 1819 }
action_a = {
name = "Beograd is part of Serbia province"
command = { type = provincetax which = 354 value = -1 } #Banat
command = { type = provincemanpower which = 354 value = -1 } #Banat
command = { type = population which = 354 value = -2500 } #Banat
command = { type = fortress which = 354 value = -1 } #Banat
command = { type = provincetax which = 355 value = 1 } #Serbia
command = { type = provincemanpower which = 355 value = 1 } #Serbia
command = { type = population which = 355 value = 2500 } #Serbia
command = { type = fortress which = 355 value = 1 } #Serbia
}
}

The event is randm, so it can be repeated and checked each 20 years.
