You can see the map (beige area), with the idgrid block superimposed on it.
Block A represents a top block. As you can see, it overlaps a bit on the left, right and bottom sides, but not on the top: there is no data there, so that isn't accounted for. The size of this block is 2048+256+256 = 2560px horizontally, and 2048+256 = 2304px vertically. The left overlap of this block is actually situated on the right side of the map. My code automatically wraps this stuff, so in effect it's one contiguous block. Actually, you can pretend that there are no real left/right edges.
Block B is a normal block. It has overlap on all sizes, so it's in effect a 2560x2560. The green block at the right is there to show the "double" overlap you have (the provinces in that area will be counted in 2 grid areas).
Block C is the block at the bottom-right. First, you can see that is not very high: the cutoff at the bottom is quite large. Again, no more data at the bottom, so it's not counted. Then, at the right side the map wraps around, so it goes to fetch data from the left side (C1). When C1 and C2 are combined it give a full C block (in width, but not in height). The size of this block = 2560px wide and 1408px high (=7296-3x2048+256).
As you can see: ALL idgrid blocks are 2560px wide, even though the grid size is only 2048px.
Does this make it more clear?
