Saratow is often separated from Golden Horde mainland as the result of events. War against Russia can become endless as very bad result because warscore will be too low. I suggest to include this province in following events:

#-#Until the disintegration of the Mongol empire (14th cent.) the khans themselves were under the suzerainty of the great khan at Karakorum. In the early 14th century the empire of the Golden Horde adopted Islam as its official religion. Thus, Russia was exposed to both Muslim and Asian civilization. Internecine warfare among the Tatar leaders and attempts by the Russian princes, such as Dmitri Donskoi, to end tributary payments contributed to the decline of the Empire of the Golden Horde in the late 14th cent. The state was conquered by Timur, who in 1395 dealt a final blow by sacking Sarai Berke. After his death the empire broke up into the independent khanates of Astrakhan, Kazan, Crimea, and Sibir.

Problem could be the same for Bogutjar but this province is almost always lost by Golden Horde very early.

Came across an interesting tidbit while doing research for Crimea recently. Apparently, the Golden Horde was actually divided into two about the time that Crimea was formed. That's why there are so many conflict accounts of who was the Great Khan at the time as there were two separate entities that had two different (although somewhat similar) foreign policies. For now, I don't think we really need to do much about this, although I will work on the monarch list to only follow one of the two branches...and I might perhaps add a few leaders from the branch we don't represent. Someday though...we might think of throwing an extra tag in that direction.

So I'm still working on this (/certainly trying to come up with more trigger conditions to make the sequence more flexible) but here's what I've been working on to show the role to which Crimea's neighbors played a role in her history. I've been thinking that if Mengli Giray isn't ruler of Crimea than the sequence that has Crimea become an Ottoman vassal won't fire. That's still to come.

Code:
#(1471) Mengli Giray of Crimea

With the death of Hajji I of Crimea, a struggle ensued for the title of khan. Although Nur Dawlat was the rightful heir by the succession laws of the Golden Horde, Mengli, Hajji's other son, had the support of ambitious clansmen. Taking refuge in the Genoese colonies, Mengli asked for Genoa's support in overthrowing his brother. Nur Dawlat had become a concern for Genoese merchants as his strong handed rule threatened Genoese trading in the region.

Although in 1469, Nur Dawlat had been able to dislodge his brother from the peninsula, Mengli was still a threat. Mengli turned to Genoa for backing of his claim to the throne. In 1471, with the assistance of Genoa and the backing of much of the Crimean aristocracy, Mengli successfully overthrew his brother. Nur Dawlat would have to bide his time on the sidelines.

While the succession struggle in Crimea kept the tatars occupied, unfortunately, Mengli was turning out just like his brother. Once again, a strong khan was threatening Genoese trade. Unhappy with the curtailing of their former privileges, a few prominent clansmen approached Genoa with a scheme to re-install Nur Dawlat.

Dissatisfied with Mengli's attempts to curtail their power, a few dissatisfied nobles approached the Genoese with a scheme to re-install Nur Dawlat. Mengli quickly found himself removed from power.

After the fall of Constantinople to the Ottomans, it became increasingly difficult for Genoa to maintain its possessions in the Black Sea. The Bank of San Giorgio in Genoa was administrating the holdings since 1453, the most important strongholds were the two fortresses Chembalo and Sudak, and the city Kaffa. In 1475, after an invitation from disatisfied Crimean nobles to invade the peninsula in exchange for Turkish support against their khan, a large Turkish fleet under Grand Vizier Keduk Akhmet Pasha arrived to conduct a naval landing and started to besiege Kaffawith Tatar aid. After five days Kaffa surrendered and 500 Genoese families were sent to Constantinople, many leaders manage to flee to Mangup, including the governor Antonietto da Cabella and the general Francisco Guasconcini.

Ever fickle, the leading Crimean tribes quickly became alarmed at Nur Dawlat's close relationship with the Genoese. In 1475, the Shirin bey formally requested that the Ottoman sultan conquer Kaffa, which would eliminate Nur Dawlat's ally. The succesful Turkish conquest of Kaffa allowed for Mengli to become khan.

In 1475, Mengli Giray wrote a letter to the Ottoman sultan promising to be "the enemy of the Sultan's enemy, the friend of his friend." Such news was troubling to the khan of the Golden Horde as the khanate had never ceased to claim that the Crimean lands were rightuflly theirs. In an attempt to head off Ottoman influence, the khan sent a full scale invasion to place Nur Dawlat as a puppet ruler.

In 1475, Mengli Giray wrote a letter to the Ottoman sultan promising to be "the enemy of the Sultan's enemy, the friend of his friend." In 1478, annoyed with their khan, several prominent Crimean beys approached the Ottoman sultan about support the claims of the khan's brother, Mengli Giray. Their candidate for the khanship was very friendly to the Ottomans and even went so far as to promise a pledge of obedience.

In 1478 at the bequest of several prominent Crimean beys, Mehmed sent Mengli Giray, accompanied by the Ottoman army, to invade Crimea. With Mengli Giray's enthronement, Ottoman authority in the region became unquestioned.

So I'm still working on this (/certainly trying to come up with more trigger conditions to make the sequence more flexible) but here's what I've been working on to show the role to which Crimea's neighbors played a role in her history. I will wait for inclusion. Please let me know.

Can we have Kalmuk back to being Buddist? It has very special role as it was the only Mongol Country with a Buddisht National Religion, and right next to Russia no less. I think it adds a lot of style to have a Buddhist province, until it gets converted to Islam or Orthodoxy. It was like this in the original game so why did it get changed in AGCEEP? :confused:

Kalmuk should indeed become Buddhist sometime in the early 17-th century.
Here is a link.

I think the prerequisite should be that Kalmuk is still Sunni. Of course, someone has to write an event for it...(not me:eek:).

I just wrote an event for my personal version of the game that converts Kalmyk to Buddhism in the 17th century. Feel free to incorporate it into AGCEEP if you wish and modify it any way you like.

Code:
#########################################################################
# Buddhism spread in Kalmykia
#########################################################################
event = {
	id = 685
	trigger = {
			provincereligion = {province = 467 data = sunni} #Kalmuk#
	}
	random = no
	province = 467
	name = "EVENTNAME_A43"
	desc = "EVENTHIST_A43"
	style = 4

	date = { year = 1610 }
	offset = 5000

	action_a = {
			name = "EVENT_A43_A" #Buddhist migrants#
			command = { type = provincereligion which = 467 value = buddhism } #Kalmuk#
			command = { type = population which = 467 value = 4000 }
			command = { type = provincetax which = 467 value = 1 }
		}
	}

EVENTNAME_A43;Kalmyk Migration;;;;;;;;;;12871
EVENTHIST_A43;The Kalmyks, of Mongol origin, migrated to the Caspian region in the 17th century from Central Asia. Like other Mongols, the Kalmyk are Tibetan Buddhists, but their Buddhism has a strong admixture of indigenous beliefs and shamanistic practices.;;;;;;;;;;12872
EVENT_A43_A;Let them be;;;;;;;;;;12873

The event was written for vanilla, so you will have to modify the id and text.csv directors. The event has been tested and works properly - it will convert Kalmuk to Buddhism sometime in the first half of the 17-th century, but only if Kalmuk is still Sunni.

Thanks.

Only problem with such event could be Crimea revolting as Buddhist country. Does it make sense? Should we have to force the religion in the entry for Crimea in revolt.txt to sunni? Will this forced religion be a better solution then?

I suppose Kalmuk shouldn't be among Crimea's 'minimum' provinces in the first place. If it has to be than I think it would be better to set Crimea to Sunni. According to Encyclopaedia Britannica the migration of Kalmyks wasn't all that large. Any mongol state in the area would have Crimean Tatars as the ruling class I think. Today, the Kalmykian Republic is the only area in Europe with Buddhist majority.

Actually, I don't see the problem with having the chance that Crimea revolts as Buddhist once that event has fired. That should be very rare, but if Crimea was revolting out of that province, the leadership would likely be Buddhist then.

The only thing I wonder about the event is context. What exactly should drive the Buddhists to come to Kalmuk?

It's believed that Kalmyks, who arrived to Kalmykia circa 1630, were looking for pastures. For sure, they wouldn't arrived to poor region, but I don't know whether this can be somehow taken into account in triggers or not. However, having expelled Nogais, who lived here, Kalmyks created their own Khanate. I think, if that territory had been under Russian control, they wouldn't have been able to conquer it.

So I suggest to add:

NOT {owned = { province = 467 data = RUS } }

History of Kalmykia

According to Wikipedia at least (which doesn't cite its sources on this one) the Kalmyk Khanate became vassals of the tsar within 25 years, and settled alongsides Russian settlers. The Khanate was located east of Caspian sea anywas, in the EU provinces Alga, Irgiz, Orsk. It was fully incorporated in 18th century. It's probably OK for Russia to own 467, as that specific province was not part of the Khanate. Also, there should be a revolter/formed-by-event Buddhist state called Kalmyk Khanate, located in the three provinces I've mentioned, and later conquering a bunch of provinces up to Aral sea, as per this link.

On a side note, the Kalmyks also settled elsewere on the Steppes, so a couple provincetax-raising events could be appropriate.

The problem with Buddhist Krimea is ahistorical monarchs-the khans of Crimea were Sunni Tatars, not Buddhist Kalmyks.

Here is an updated version of what I initially posted in post 123, with added updates for monarchs. I still need to create the two leaders that are cited in the events (as well as I need to figure out what to do with the Mengli leader as it doesn't make sense to have him if Nur Dawlat wins).

In 1475, Mengli Giray wrote a letter to the Ottoman sultan promising to be "the enemy of the Sultan's enemy, the friend of his friend." Alarmed by Mengli Giray's Ottoman friendly gestures, the Golden Horde sent a full invasion force to put Nur Dawlat in his place. The khan also sent a governor to oversee Nur Dawlat's activities.

In 1478, annoyed with their khan, several prominent Crimean beys approached the Ottoman sultan about support the claims of the khan's brother, Mengli Giray.

While Russia managed to overtake the other Khanates of the European steppe in the 16th century, the Khanate of Crimea lasted well into the 1700s. A major reason for this longevity was the support of the Ottoman Empire.

Here is an updated version of what I initially posted in post 123, with added updates for monarchs. I still need to create the two leaders that are cited in the events (as well as I need to figure out what to do with the Mengli leader as it doesn't make sense to have him if Nur Dawlat wins).
Still witing for inclusion or is it safe now?

In the GEN "Mengli Giray of Crimea" event, I have no idea of the possible id for GEN "Mengli Giray overreaches" that should be slept in action_b. There is no such event. Is it a leftover?

For confirmation, is the leader to be made dormant 037802 "Mengli I"?

Why not have:
Code:
		command = { type = wakeleader which = 037802 } #Mengli I (CRI)
in the CRI "Death of Nur Dawlat" event then?

There is a little consistency problem with monarchs. If "Death of Nur Dawlat" event fires and Crimea disappears and then reappears before 1515, default monarch will be... 037501 "Nur Dawlat I". There is no mention of his death in the description of the event. Could the name of the event be changed to something like "Ottoman authority over Crimea"? Affordable?

Actually that's a result of me not updating the text when I changed the event name. It should sleep "#GEN: Nur Dawlat and the Khanate of Crimea".

Yes that is sensible enough.

Sure your suggested name is fine with me.
