while reading about the HRE for another thread I cam across this article

The external boundaries of the Holy Roman Empire varied over time. In particular, the western boundary shifted many times eastward, as French kings encroached on the Empire as they enlarged their domains. Thus Provence (1246), Dauphiné (1335), the bishoprics of Metz, Toul, Verdun (1558), Alsace (1648), Franche-Comté (1678), Lorraine (1736), the west bank of the Rhine (1801) were incorporated into France after being ceded by the Emperors. There were losses elsewhere: the Swiss cantons, practically independent of their Habsburg overlords since the Middle Ages, were formally set free at the Peace of Westphalia in 1648.

My question is , why is provence part of HRE when it was given up in 1246, also if its a game consideration, then please advise.

If the HRE borders cannot be moved at any time during the game , then should we set the borders as around 1600?

Johan added it and some of the other lost territories a patch or two back as I recall. I would guess that it was done to represent claims that an aggressive player may wish to recover. I know at least one Emperor gave it a shot during the game timeframe.

My memory migth play tricks on me here, but wasn't it so in the earlier patches, that any HRE-province owned by certain tags (FRA, perhaps HOL as well) would loose it's special status for the duration of the "foreign occupation"?

Austrian cot

event 179023 creates cot in Vienna. I would propose to add trigger e.g. size = 6 or more.

In my current game Austria is 4 province minor (did not inherit Tirol, Steirmark was destroyed in wars, from Bohemia it got 2 provinces only (and lost one of them) and did not inherit Hungary (because Ottomans did not exist or other reasons). Such a small Austria would be unsignificant and because Austria has no chance to capture Veinice (owns half of Italy and leads technologically) now there are 3 very small cots in Europe: Sjeland, Danzig and Vienna.

Leader change proposal for BAY.

----------------------------
AGCEEP has for the BAY leader Tilly (id 32006) as a death date 1632 (his actual death date). However, he entered Imperial service in 1630.

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_t'Serclaes_Graf_von_Tilly

Therefore, I propose for him:

Code:
historicalleader = {
		id = { type = 6 id = 32006 }
		category = general
		name = "Tilly" #Johann t'Serclaes, Graf von Tilly
		startdate = {
			year= 1608
		}
		deathdate = {
			year = 1630 #from 1632, after 1630 he commanded the HAB army
		}
		rank = 1
		movement = 3
		fire = 4
		shock = 5
		siege = 1
}

Tilly could be an HAB leader after 1630.

AGCEEP has for the BAY leader Werth (id 32008) as a start date 1635. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_von_Werth he was captured in 1638, but released in 1642 after which he still fought for Bavaria. He retired in 1648 and that should be his new death date in my opinion.

Therefore, I propose for him:

Code:
historicalleader = {
		id = { type = 6 id = 32008 }
		category = general
		name = "Werth" #Graf Johann von Werth
		startdate = {
			year= 1630
		}
		deathdate = {
			year = 1648 #from 1638
		}
		rank = 2
		movement = 4
		fire = 2
		shock = 3
		siege = 0
}

--------------------------------------------------------

Leader change proposal for HAN .

Ernst August (id 0252) lives in AGCEEP from 1690-1725. I think he is Ernest Augustus, Elector of Brunswick-Lüneburg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernest_Augustus,_Elector_of_Hanover) which has other start and death dates.

I propose:

Code:
	historicalleader = {
		id = { type = 6 id = 0252 }
		category = general
		name = "Ernst August" #Ernst August, Herzog zu Braunschweig-Lüneburg
		startdate = {
			year=1679 #from 1690
		}
		deathdate = {
			year=1698 #from 1725
			month=january #added
			day=28 #added
		}
		rank = 0
		movement = 3
		fire = 3
		shock = 3
		siege = 0
	}

If he is instead someone else, I would like to know who.

There are many leaders in the HAN file which I can't find info about. Take for example Brunswick (id 0256). The only Brunswick/Braunschweig that can be found aren't leaders for Hannover, but for Prussia.

Is the HAN file researched? It looks to be a lot like the leader file vanilla has for hannover.

event below has wrong country selected, it should be for SPA.

Again , a misunderstanding of modders thinking that the Habsburg represent only Austria.

Code:

	#-#In 1527, the mercenary army of Charles V, angry for lack of pay, sacked the city of Rome. Although the exact role of the emperor in this act is unclear, it hurt his standing internationally, and caused something of a domestic crisis. It was one of the motivations for the alliance between England and France in 1527, and for the war with those countries that followed.

yes, and I have also submitted some modifications to them, mainly about the descriptions (in the Italian wars,timeframe 1521-1530).

I think it is correct to include also Austria, since the Tiroler general Frundsberg led the imperial lansquenents to Italy and then those troops joined the Spaniards led by Charles of Bourbon...

Since it was already discussed in the Iberian thread (check here from post 1228 on !) to reduce the loansize, changed by the Spanish event "the Fuggers", from 1000 to 400 mainly for AI reasons, accordingly I suggest to lower it down in the other event concerning the Fuggers, event for Austria:

Code:
#The Fuggers# modified by mnorrefeldt
event = {
	id = 3183
	random = no
	country = HAB
	name = "EVENTNAME3183" #The Fuggers
	desc = "EVENTHIST3183"
	#-#The Fuggers were a peasant family of weavers from Augsburg during the 15th Century who rose through trade and transactions in money to Bankers of the Habsburgs and the Popes. Jakob Fugger the Rich (1511-1525) financed Charles V wars and election to the Empire, controlled European lead, silver and copper production and obtained a monopoly in quicksilver. Anton Fugger (1525-1560) had trading concessions in Chile, Peru and Moscow. However, the company declined by the end of the 16th Century because of state bankruptcies in Spain, family conflicts and lack of interest on the part of the heirs.

	date = { day = 1 month = january year = [COLOR=Yellow]1519[/COLOR] } #from 1514
	offset = 30
	deathdate = { day = 1 month = january year = 1520 }

	action_a = {
		name = "ACTIONNAME3183A" #Let the Fuggers run our Finances
		command = { type = loansize which = [COLOR=Yellow]300[/COLOR] } #from 500
		command = { type = treasury value = -100 }
		command = { type = merchants value = 6 }
		command = { type = inflation value = -5 }
	}
	action_b = {
		name = "ACTIONNAME3183B" #Turn the Fuggers offer down
		[COLOR=Red]# command = { type = treasury value = -100 } # modified by mnorrefeldt[/COLOR]
		command = { type = stability value = -3 }
		command = { type = inflation value = [COLOR=Yellow]2[/COLOR] } #from 10
	}
}

in yellow modifications, in red removals

EDIT: changed starting date for consistency with corresponding SPA event about the Fuggers here.

Modification needed in imperial leader:

Code:
historicalleader = {
	id = { type = 6 id = 055810 }
	category = general
	name = "Piccolomini"
	startdate = {
		year = 1627
	}
	[color=Yellow]deathdate = {
		day = 6
		month = september
		year = 1634 # entered the service of Spain after Nördlingen[/color]
	}
	rank = 1
	movement = 4
	fire = 4
	shock = 3
	siege = 1
}

Having already worked for Spain 1616-23 without command, he reentered Spanish service after Nördlingen 1634. Returned briefly to imperial service 1640-1642, and went back to Spanish service until 1648. Retired 1650.
His main victory for Spain was at Thionville 1639, when he was created Duke of Amalfi by the king of Spain.

Some of the HAN come from EEP Hanover, others are, I think vanilla. Twoflower did a comprehensive review of all the German leaders a year or so ago - I can't find the thread, but I'm pretty sure he looked at all of the HAN leaders.

I disagree about Tilly. His status after 1630 was very much ambiguous, basically Maximillian loaned his entire army (with Tilly in command) to Ferdinand. Maximillian was, in 1630, hopelessly stuck in the Imperial alliance, and Tilly's campaigns after 1630 were really no more decided by the Emperor than they had been before. It's not clear cut, but I think he makes more sense as a Bavarian general from 1630-1632.

I dont know if anyone have said this before, but I think Diet of Worms and its folowing events should lead to a forming of the Holy roman empire, and not the kingdom of Germany. Also the leader of HRE should get cores on the whole empire, plus Prussia, because they are Germans, and the TO who where the emperors vassals. But not Swichy and Italy, because they where only parts of the empire in name.

Holy Roman empire cores:

Thank you for you correction. However, if I am not misstaked, Odenburg has German culture, so maybe both of them should be added...

Being German cultured doesn't make a province part of HRE de facto. OTOH, some non German cultured provinces are part of HRE... Krain for example (at least the province named "Krain" on the map).

I think we all can agree on that the austrian leader Gallas is an incompetent idiot. Therefore, I propose he has the following stats;

historicalleader = {
id = { type = 6 id = 09358 }
category = general
name = "Gallas"
startdate = {
year = 1625
}
deathdate = {
year = 1645
}
rank = 1
movement = 2
fire = 2
shock = 1
siege = 0
}

Also, I can't find any information on why he should start in 1625. What's the reason behind this start?
