I tend to think in terms of money. I think that Ferrante wanted a piece of the trade coming from Egypt. The main source of wealth in the eastern mediterranean. The Genoese went as far as to take Famagusta with a feeble excuse, and the Venetians went as far as to erradicate a dinasty. Ferrante offered some of his children, of which he had ample supply, not to incorporate Cyprus to Naples, but to get a family member in the throne, that could deviate the wealth towards Naples, instead of Genoa or Venice.

But this is just my opinion, and not very valuable, since I am not an expert in history by far. Just an aficionado.

I'd agree that 3 chances is pretty generous. The whole thing was pretty half-baked anyway. Norwich definitely says that the coup in 1474 was intended to marry Caterina to Alonso, NOT to Charlotte. That said, it doesn't relaly matter, and he may well be wrong again.

Realistically for the Cypriots to stay out of Venetian control they'd have had to have put themselves under someone stronger than Venice. Realistically this means France or Aragon (the Ottomans presumably being an unattractive option for the Latins:)). Naples under Ferrante certainly wsn't a good choice. I can't help but think that if Alfonso the Magnanimous had still been King of Aragon and Naples he would have jumped at the chance, and probably could have pulled it off. But he died in 1458.

Or, I suppose, if they could have kept Caterina in place as Queen until 1501 or so (she died in 1505 I think) I suspect they could have convinced Ferdinand the Catholic to take up the job. He was King of Aragon and Naples by that point, and had an army and fleet in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Oh well that's all idle speculation. The wa you're doing it seems pretty realsitic.

the problem with cyprus was that the great noble venetian family of Cornaro was the dominant merchant of cyprus, holding vast productions of wine, sugar and cotton plantations. It was in the best interest for venice to hold cyprus.

Also, cyprus was close to the silk road port of aleppo were the spices entered the med.

On caterina, she died in 1510. was moved by venice from cyprus to Asolo, Treviso in Veneto, with her 3000 staff members.

There is an idea , lower the pop of cyprus by 3000 and give it to venice

Those were unproductive courtesans, coming from all over the island (Nicosia was the main court), not only from Famagusta, some of them clearly Venetians in Cyprus. Besides already Famagusta has a squalid population of around 10,000. Probably much lower than it should. It is already a problem to see what population represents in EU2, but I would think that they are the productive working class (they do produce) and not the parasitic nobility.

The leader Antoine isn't really a "fantasy" general, since he did exist for Burgundy, right? We shouldn't brand him as fantasy since he should then only be activated with the fantasy option. Pure nitpicking I know. ;)
Both these leader names are too long to display correctly I'm afraid (along with all BUR leaders :D).
Can he appear for both BUR and CYP now? Perhaps he should be slept if he's chosen in a BUR event? That event could hold some relation boost and a RM to flesh it out some.

Shortened names and changed the fantasy remark.

I am not sure that it is worth it making him a sleeping beauty. The Cypriots offering him the crown as a Frankish crusader is one out of four human-only pathways (the AI cannot get this far, probabilities below 1/1000). Theoretically yes, he should then go to sleep in Burgundy, but I don't think it is worth the trouble. Cyprus only gets the Burgundian cores after Burgundy disappears so it is extreamely unlikely that they will see each other.

Let's see what Lawkeeper has to say. In any case i would need his help to put Antoine to sleep in Burgundy if you still think it is worth it.

Final submission events, leaders and monarchs follow. There are minor changes that came out from testing.

He was forbidden from entering the palace, and was impeded from attending the coronation, that as archbishop of Nicosia he should have officiated. Jacques, as the favourite of his father, had expected to inherit the kingdom, indeed a possibility had Jean lived longer. But now he had few supporters if any. He had a bad press in the west and the Pope, the Hospitallers and Savoy were strong supporters of his half-sister. The Genoese were, as always, his enemies. Charlotte’s travels to materialize the help from the Hospitallers, Pope Pius II, and from her father-in-law the Duke of Savoy came to nothing. Louis of Savoy was willing to give some money, and Pius II a couple of galleys, the Hospitalliers were caught in the succesion of their High Master and did nothing. Jacques, who was well received by the locals, crowned himself in 1460, but was not recognized by Pius II, who saw him as an instrument of Islam. Only the Venetians, with a keen eye on business, changed their support from Charlotte to Jacques. In 1485 Charlotte ceded the three crowns of Cyprus, Armenia and Jerusalem to the Duke of Savoy. At 20 years of age she has seen too many people die, but now it is her son, the king Jacques III Lusignan who dies while she was preparing his first birthday party. With him, the Lusignan dinasty becomes extinct. It also means the last of the Frankish kingdoms in Levant and the end of a dream built over blood. By virtue of having named her -Daughter of St. Mark-, Venice becomes the heir of the kingdom of Cyprus, but only if she does not re-marry or have any children. Her destiny has also been sealed. Her life will be spared, but her freedom has disappeared. She will always be watched and controlled. Perhaps due to her tragedy, Caterina wins the love of her Greek subjects, that for the first time support a Latin ruler."

With time they were starting to get more and more nervous. They even removed, Marietta Patra, mother of Jacques II together with the three illegitamate children of her son, Eugene, Jean and Charla as prisoners to Padua in 1476, where Charla, who had signed a marriage contract with Alonso of Naples, died soon after. But Caterina was still young, and there were always talks of diplomats attempting to get to her with marriage offers. Ferrante was entertaining the idea of marrying her to Alonso, a plan she could have favored. Nothing could actually happen, since she was not allowed out of sight, and she could not sign a paper without permission. But the growing Ottoman menace and Ferrante’s plans moved Venice to accelerate the take over."

How about MA for Genoa from start, to model Farmagusta?

Sure, no problem.

For human Cyprus it means you need to cancel it if you want to go to war with them. For a one-province Cyprus the stability decrease is irrelevant.

It really only matters for human Genoa, since you get a convenient stop-over in the oriental mediterranean. Traveling from Kerch to Genoa becomes easier. Hitting Alexandria becomes a lot more feasible.

It should disappear in 1464, but I don't know how it can be done. OTOH it doesn't really matter if it lingers around until 1489.

MA in an island bears really no consequence except for human navies.

Norrefeldt said:
I think it will have rather little impact on the game, since MA can rather easily be reached with Cyprus, the Knights or Morea, should one want to. An Famagusta should make it easier to sail in the Eastern Med, shouldn't it?

Agreed.

Is anyone interested in making some fantasy events for a resurrected Kingdom of Jerusalem? I don't know if the option to recreate it once you take Judea is avaliable in AGCEEP. But if it is included, it could be interesting to have some fantasy events, monarchs and leaders.
Thanks! :)

It already exists. If you play the knights and have fantasy events active and you have sufficient gains in Holy Land, you can become the Kingdom of Jerusalem. It can also revolt spontaneously between certain dates.

For an interesting discussion about it go here

I've read somewhere that their holdings on Cyprus where rather important for the Genoese, at least militarily, so it could do with a little more representation. Any ideas?

Well, Norrefeldt already proposed military access and I agreed. They could hold troops and had a good port.

Besides that, I don't see what one can get from a country that one is in bad terms and is not a vassal. Manpower certainly not.

Historically it was a port of call, an important strategic concept because galleys had a range of action of 75-150 miles and a nation could not protect well her merchant ships past that distance. Venice got the upper hand in trade because of her fantastic network of ports of call from the fourth crusade. In fact Famagusta decayed a lot under the Genoese since it lost the Venetian trade. But her strategic importance meant a lot to the Genoese. In EU2 these concepts are missing.

If you are a Genoa human player the MA is important if you decide to hit Alexandria, because it makes it possible to bring troops and blockade the port. In all other cases is irrelevant, since the AI does not suffer naval attrition.
