The one thing about HoI, is that setting up games where people are willing to commit time takes just a tiny bit of encouragement and planning. And boy, talk about the rewards. Playing people you know after awhile makes the bragging rights so much sweeter. ;)

Just to add to Omni's original post re rules for this:

*2 Gold techs per year.
*Unlimited silver tech trades between commonwealth.
*Max. of 3 silver tech trade per year to allies.
*No expeditionary forces to neutrals, no attacking from neutrals.
*Play semi-historical but realistic at least.

I personally enjoy playing with a couple of adjustments to the above, but which I am happy to alter to suit group consensus.

*Monroe Doctrine - No Invasions of any American nations without first DOW'ing USA
*Tech trade allowed with SU by allies once SU at war with Germany
*No general war until 39

We also have an Italian player by the looks of things as well.

Sounds real good, that Monroe Doctrin I've seen before, seems fair, might have to try that in a game one day. :D

Monroe Doc

I believe the Monroe Doc should have a condition that it stands only as long as the other players do not wage economic war against the Axis while not at war. It is so easy to cripple the Germany and Italian economies by buying up all the rubber or even easier, all the steel. USSR and USA can win the war by 39 this way, and the axis have no reply.
It would then be upto the Com and Allies to be historical before restricting the Axis to be historical. You just cant say to the Axis that they cannot go and conqure resources overseas because its not historical, and then turn around and say that your going to buy up all thats available on the world market.
If the other players like economic warfare then they must suffer the penalty.

Well, not the numbers I hoped for, but thanks to those who showed up.

We played from 36 til the very end of 39 (mid december), and everything has gone fairly historical so far.

As always, playing with 'locals' means that we played at good speed until war, and have an agreed time to play on. For further sessions though, I'd like to see more people, so I'll keep my eye on this page.
