I just installed the update and all my born in the purple characters are now blinded.

I am assuming this is because they changed something in the traits file?

Edit: I see the thread now. I was fooled because blinded wasn't on the first page.

This game gets so much worse with each update. I hate, hate, hate that Steam autoapplies everything.

Make a copy of your entire game folder for playing 1.103 games.

In this copy locate the folder /common/traits
Inside it are 3 files 00_traits, 01_traits, and 02_traits

You will find and entry in 00_traits.txt like this:
siege_leader = {
leader = yes

command_modifier = {

.
.
}
}

Copy that entire entry.

Open 02_traits.txt
At the end of that file, on a new line, paste that entry.

Delete the original entry from 00_traits.txt

You can use this copy of CKII for your old 1.103 games.

DO NOT START NEW GAMES ON THIS COPY
THEY WILL NOT BE COMPATIBLE WITH FUTURE PATCHES.

Typical amateur hour move from Paradox. Naturally there's no real way to fix this. And you can't exactly expect to keep playing with your modded game because you won't be able to use future patches.

They could have just invalidated a few hours worth of new games today, and let everyone keep playing their old saves and not had people start new games in "fix mods" but instead people will have to delete all their old saves, or skip future patches until they're ok with ditching saves.

Great move.

That's not actually true, unless you go and edit the actual game files. The mod just tells the game to use the files in the mod folder instead of the corresponding ones in the game's program files. All you need to do is remember to turn the mod on when you want to play a game that was started before the 1.11 patch, and turn it off when you are playing a new game. If there is a new patch that changes the traits again, I'll just put together an updated version of the fix-mod. If a new patch changes everything but traits, then it won't have any effect on the fix-mod's functionality, so you won't run into any issues from the fix-mod's end. (Though the other changes made by this hypothetical future patch could cause other issues, they wouldn't be related to this fix-mod.)

Just fix it yourself (as Doomdark said); Open up traits_00 cut out the siege leader plot and paste it into traits_02, right at the end. If you aren't playing multiplayer you should be fine.

When I go back to CK2 I'll just start a new game & forget my 1.103 save. :(

They might release a hotfix and include this in it. They seem quite active on bug report forum so it seems there might be a hotfix coming at some point.

I guess they won't. Doomdark's reasoning is that if they release a fix so that older saves work it would destroy all the saves started with 1.11. They really should have released 1.111 a few hours after 1.11 i.e. right away when that bug surfaced.

Or they could have realized that they'd be fucking up all the traits by adding a new one smack in the middle of the list, moving all the other ones down. Or they could have said "well we know pretty much everyone has been working on CK2 games for the last 5 months in an attempt to convert it to EUIV.... and now they can't because our patch fucked everything up, but we will remedy and fix it because the amount of people playing the new games is insignificant to the amount of people playing pre-patch games." But nope, just a middle finger.

If you've actually completed a game for conversion it doesn't actually matter, since blind wont be carried over.

One hillarious result of this is that characters who were born in the purple and were at the top of succession are now effectively blocked from it, since blind members of the Byzantine culture group cannot inherit.

All you need to do is remember to turn the mod on when you want to play a game that was started before the 1.11 patch, and turn it off when you are playing a new game.

Thanks to all people putting in all this effort, but .... I'm starting to write down which game I begun playing under which version of the game.
I truly hope this remains a one-time-screwup on pdox's side of things.
