Hello there, as stated in the title, one would expect that after a ruler loses an independence war to their vassals, they should have a CB to basically have an option to vassalize the newly independent realms back, perhaps at a later date. I'm playing as the Byzantine Empire and trying to go for the Roman Empire restoration, so as you might expect you can lose a lot and not having any means to conquer it all back can be painful. The title is in form of a question, because it seems like it too trivial to be just an oversight, so I'm wondering whether it is intentional or not. I've tried searching for something like this in the forums, but haven't found anything.

In the game, when a character loses a title, they retain the claim on that title (unless they are for some reason forced to renounce that claim later) so they can reconquer it. But after losing vassals in an independence war, there seems to be no easy way to revassalize them, short of manually claiming with your Court Chaplain or inviting claimants to your court.

Better way to ensure you have the CB is via the de jure drift mechanic, but it's not directly comparable to the title claim system because 1) you need to have the title for at least 50 years to integrate it into a higher tier title, where you always get a title claim after losing the title, 2) de jure drift changes the permanent structure of titles, basically granting the de jure CB for any ruler holding the higher tier title, whereas characters get a pressed claim, which can be inherited as an unpressed claims, which if not pressed, are lost upon death, so they aren't as permanent.

The above two are not the same, so there seems to no counterpart to character claims, which works on losing vassals from your realm. Either it is an oversight, or my understanding is wrong.

Independence factions are one of the few ways to actually shatter a big realm internally. Not giving the former liege claims is so that they don't immediately reconquer the lost territories one by one after the truce is up (and install more loyal vassals).
