before this, i'd never heard of that book. now i really want to read it. apparently it's a total classic.
I admit I also didn't know this book before the mod was made, but from the premise seems really cool. It certainly figures in my increasingly long "To read" list.

Have a decision for neo-gnostics in Colorado to legalize marijuana.

Maybe a trait like, "Does Not Partake" for characters which don't use the mary jane for -5 same religion opinion, and then a trait like, "Reefer" for those who utilize the mary jane for +5 same religion opinion, +1 dip, -1 all other stats.

Why +1 dip?

Also, +5 same trait might be better? then it could spread out and you could have a decision to trade in it, earning you money but giving the trait to your courtiers.
Although a fictional future drug would probably be better, both for forum rule and so you could have way more fun with it, reasons. Something even more destructive than meth so you could make money off killing your vassals and courtiers would be cool.

I don't foresee any traits that are specific to drug use. From a role-playing angle, you can assume that characters with the Hedonist lifestyle trait are using opium, weed, or other drugs. Characters with the Mystic lifestyle trait may be using psychedelic drugs in an attempt to gain esoteric knowledge about the secrets of the divine (or the universe, or their own minds, etc.)

With a bit of imagination the Drunkard, Slothful, and Gluttonous traits could also represent the negative effects of these kinds of intoxicants.

Maybe we could come up with some other way to become rich/powerful off destroying the lives of the people under your authority? it doesn't have to be drug related. Maybe slavery? or cannibalism? Something to do with radiation? Maybe atomists could vent radiation over the court/province, risking making everyone in it sick and screwing up the province for X amount of years, but giving them lots of piety and prestige?

Are wars of conquest not enough? When you see 8,500 casualties after a battle, imagine 8,000 wailing widows, 11,000 orphaned children, and 4,500 parents grieving for a son who died too young. Better yet, imagine a naive farm boy who picked up an axe to go to war, and now cries for his mother as he holds in his guts.

Hmm... is that a little too dark for an otherwise somewhat silly game?

Hello, I think I might have posted a few things in the original thread years ago about the PNW however sort of left when it became clear they were going to be the last area done. Ofaload is doing a Lets Play of this mod on Something Awful so it got me interested and I downloaded it and am impressed with the mod. However I would love to make some suggestions on the Northwest because in the beta I was playing it was fun albeit unpolished.

1. Atomicists usually pop up around the Manhattan Project sites/Nuclear Testing places. If there is room it would be cool to have one of their holy sites be Hanford Washington. It would add more religious diversity to the Northwest and is a reasonable inclusion since it was the primary production center of Plutonium throughout the cold war.

2. Kingdom of Cascades I think should be dissolved, I think the title works better as an Empire level title, rather than the Kingdom + Empire. In its place I think you could divide Washington & Oregon into East/West Kingdoms and get rid of the Kingdom of Alberta which just feels odd extending down into Washington and Oregon.

3. Boost the Amount of holdings in the NW slightly, the Northwest I5 corridor is one of the more heavily populated area's of the country, much more so than Northern California/Southern Oregon. Even in pre-contact America the native tribes of the Northwest had established sedentary villages etc. along major waterways. Which shows that even pre-industrial societies could probably sustain largish populations.

4. The cultures in general in the reason feel a bit... off to be honest, Portlander would make more sense being distributed down the Willamette valley rather than into eastern Oregon, Cascadian culture being part of the Empire of California feels a bit weird as well to me, rather than being some kind of Jeffersonian, NorCal etc. culture. the Native Americans being a ruling class over the coasts is interesting, however I think combining the Canuck & Portlander culture into a new Cascadian culture might make more sense. Or adding a Sounder culture for the coastal areas of Washington.

I would be perfectly happy to work on modding parts of the Northwest so I am not just coming into the thread to randomly say "Hey do things my way k-thx bai"!

Casualties aren't that bad. Most of them are from soldiers deserting during the retreat, getting lost on the way to the battle and deserting, switching sides, getting captured and potentially ransomed back, being incapacitated by disease, taking a nonlethal injury, or all sorts of other things. Actually killing someone is rather rare in war.

Found something wrong with the Brazilian invaders on my last playthrough with 0.5 before my current game with an updated version of the mod. Haven't gotten the Brazilian invaders in my current game yet, but after looking in the localization files I think the problem is still present. Their religion, Candomble, doesn't have a description written for it in localisation. When you mouse over the icon, it is something like ADJ_TXT instead of full description. No wonder the Brazilians on that game converted to the Sagrado Corazón as soon as they could!

They just fixed that a couple days ago in the Git

Speaking of broken localization, unless it's changed in the last few days, Housecarl retinues aren't localized (shows up as RETINUE_NORTH_G or something to that effect)

Wow, I remember seeing something about this mod waaaaaaaay back (before the first release maybe?) thinking it looked good, and then forgetting all about it. Good to see its come so far.

I'm getting some sort of error or placeholder message in the descriptions for the recommended/interesting characters. Problem at my end or just not added yet?

We just haven't gotten to that yet, though it may be a good place to add a bit of lore to the world.

Two things have crossed my mind. One, do the Russian Invaders use the Russian portraits if you have them? Similar to how the Gothamites, Cajuns/Creole, Melungeons, and Californio's have the Iberian Portraits. Also I recently played in the Baja and couldn't help but notice the high stat characters in there. Is this a reference to anything or just making the Baja a blast to play with the Seduction focus? ;)

I understand marijuana is often a social drug. Also it would make the trait not a complete wash. +5 opinion is nice, but not worth -1 in all stats. Same trait is what I meant, sorry. Neo-Gnostic characters could just have to make an even with the two options being smoking and not smoking with a -20 prestige hit to switch at will in the decisions menu. -10 opposite trait penalty, +5 same trait.

Also becoming a marijuana dealer would be hilarious and would give Colorado something special to do besides having a shitty religion (though removing negative traits is a nice add-on), bad, tribal holdings, and aggressive Mormon neighbors which it always loses to. Here's another idea: special feast for between March and August if one has the Marijuana Trait to simulate 4/20. This isn't actually as completely ridiculous as it sounds. Some high schools in Boulder actually get 4/20 off, it's a straight up unofficial holiday in Colorado, at least along the Front Range.
Bruh, "role-playing angle"? What is this, a game for nerds? LEGALIZE MARIJUANA 2666
Also, other minor change in Colorado: Weld county (and the Count of Weld) should definitely be Grangelander. Those crazy shits are definitely more like Kansas than they are like Boulder. They actually wanted to secede and form their own state a while back because the (democratic) urban areas kept passing tougher gun laws and such.

What? In about five games that have gone over 100+ years on this mod, the Kingdom of Colorado tends to form more often then not and adsorbs up most of the tribal countries east of it, of which there are many.
