  • Crusader Kings II
For any Reddit user, I am starting a subreddit to discuss this Game Mod (much like the Crusader Kings 2 subreddit, and its sister Game Of Thrones mod subreddit), and I am looking for contributers (including any developer/official person) to help me add info.

On the subreddit will also be archives of information (stored in the wiki) about different mechanics and features present in-game, such as religion, empires, pre-calamity tech, etc.

Subreddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/AfterTheEndCKII

Note: I am more than willing to make any developer a moderator, if he/she so chooses

Thanks in advance!

If Russians will remain Atomicist, then maybe they should practice a heresy. Might I suggest that they be "Tsarist"? No, not because they restored the royal family of Russia, but because they believe that Tsar Bomba is the predominant bomb to be worshipped.

Yes, I must agree it's very odd to have the Russians be religiously identical to a group on a different continent that they've never had contact with.

I was reading an article the other day about how the pride in the soviet space program began to take on quasi religious quality. That might be a fitting religion for the Russians. The article was called the Cult of the Cosmic. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Americanists should have their own crusade equivalent war. The name of it having something to do with Manifest Destiny.
They had one called "Liberation Wars", but it was removed to to the wars ending if the President died.

I ran a quick game, starting as the king of Ontario and using the console to get the requisite counties to form the Confederated Church. In my actual playthrough as Canada (version 0.6.1), I noticed that the event itself, while it has a cool header image, had no description of any kind. Using the console to recreate these conditions confirms this;
WYicC83.jpg
Even though this is version 0.6 (which is what I have on my laptop; it's up do date on my gaming PC), it's like this in 0.6.1 as well. Is this something the devs are working on, or is there supposed to be actual text for this event that isn't showing up due to a bug? (By the way, I like how King By's ID starts with 1867. Nice touch.)

Just checked my copy of the dev build, and the event in that copy has text for the Confederated Churches formation event, so it'll probably be in the next public release. Sadly it seems the link to the GitHub version got pulled by the forum mods, or else I'd share the link to it with you.

Also, A quick question. I beat back the Japanese on their first attack on California. Will they ever make more attacks, or does the event only happen once? Considering that they're a sort of merchant/colonists (and kind of an analogue to the Europeans setting up in the New World and Africa) I feel like it would be better if they made multiple attempts at several different sites.
In my current Baja sur game they had made four attempts but I don't know if it is WAD

Also could we get the Russians to actually attack from alaska instead of using ships? Like the mongols when they use to work

Finally, I think it would be cool if there is a consumerism heresy that is communism just for the fun

It's a creation of the mod. It's created by a decision available to Canadian High Church or Ursuline rulers, which unifies the two churches, turns both religions (and the sole Ursuline heresy) into heresies of the Confederated Church, and creates a new religious head, the Prime Minister, based out of the Glebe, the church holding in Ottawa. To do this, you need either both the religious head titles of the High Church and the Ursuline See (how this would happen is beyond me), or you need to control the counties that contain the "Great Cities" of Canada (Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, and Halifax). Basically, it's a way to create a new, unique religion for the player or AI should they form the empire of Canada. It's a little bare bones at the moment, as evidenced by the lack of text in the formation event and the fact that it uses the Catholic symbol as a placeholder. Given that in the dev builds that event has text, I have a feeling that the Confederated Church is going to be fleshed out in the next public release, whenever that is. Speaking of which, when is that going to happen?

Also, I started that latest discussion on communism. Whoops.

actually the first muskets came about in small numbers in the late 15th century, so a little bit after AtEs' time.

technically the most advanced weapon per se should be this: the repeating crossbow
Sure, but the first guns weren't invented by people who had already seen guns and were able to examine them in detail and were already aware of what a gun was and what it did. I can't think of any historical parallels to a situation like that, but there's no reason to railroad technology to the way it progressed in the past. It makes sense that people would be making guns of some sort before anyone happens to think up a repeating crossbow. I'm not sure they'd be muskets either, since there are a lot more shotguns, pistols, and rifles around today. But then I don't know enough about guns to say whether or not somebody without the technical knowledge attempting to recreate a shotgun wouldn't wind up making something musketlike. I do suspect that the lack of mechanized production would make it so firearms would never see any largescale use by armies in the game's setting. But then, there are plenty of ruined factories and power plants around. It can't be too long before somebody gets clever, and their liege will doubtlessly be happy.

The problem is the nature of the Apocalypse defined. In most cases, I would agree that gun-smiths would continue their craft. The problem is that we've had a seemingly complete breakdown of society and general knowledge. Imagine showing someone from 1066 a shotgun. Even if they are spectacularly intelligent, or an innovator of technology, they would still likely claim it was witchcraft. It's essentially the same here. Even though there are still a few working guns, it has been over 600 years since they've seen any wide-scale use, and it seems society is just getting back on it's feet. I could see someone in a more enlightened age (such as Da Vinci, or Guttenberg) possibly looking at one and creating something similar, if a bit dumbed down. But in a medieval society, with their knowledge, at best severely warped and at worst just gone, it just seems implausible.

Imagine showing someone from 1066 a shotgun. Even if they are spectacularly intelligent, or an innovator of technology, they would still likely claim it was witchcraft. It's essentially the same here. Even though there are still a few working guns.

Okay maybe a zealot that blames technology for the fall of America, but I'm pretty sure no one who understands what a gun is would call a shotgun witchcraft unless they were spectacularly stupid. People in the middle ages weren't morons, they just had the wrong hypothesis's on how things worked, post-apocalyptic people would also not suddenly turn stupid. I'm not saying they'd be able to build most anything modern, but they sure wouldn't be thinking modern stuff is evil.

The issue isn't knowing what these things are, the issue is not being able to make them. Making things like cars, gun, computers, etc requires a whole lot of infrastructure; you need mining equipment and drills to get the raw materials, you need roads, railways, and planes to transport the resources to the factories in a decent amount of time, and you need factories with complex equipment to actually make the thing you want. All of these things require resources and power that just wouldn't be available. If you went back in time to the middle ages (or into the universe of this mod), and showed a relatively educated person a diagram of a gun or an internal combustion engine, they would be able to make sense of it, but they wouldn't be able to replicate it without the proper resources and infrastructure.

The gun manufacturing might work best as an event chain. Some ruler who has had contact with a gun (perhaps he didn't inherit his father's gun) sets out to make his own. He calls for someone skilled in technology, he starts spending money on the resources as attempts to put together a firearm.
