I have lost some wars quite badly before but I purposely continue to play because I find it quite interesting and fun to try and attempt to rebuild and possibly even regain the lost provinces. I honestly find it quite stupid if you quite after loosing a war because it can actually in the end even result in a greater victory as the enemy may actually be weaker as a larger nation due to them being over extended or even being at wars with others due to being threatened by them.

During a cause of almost 400 years it´s almost impossible to win every war especially in ironman - mode.

Currently with Spain i lost two major wars vs Ottomans and France but the game overall went very well (1750 now).

On the other hand i lost an independance war with Naples vs Aragon....with that bad start i took another chance and quit.

It depends on your definition of "badly". If you are France or Russia and lose 5-6 provinces, you can easily take them back in 5 years time. Never release vassals by the way (unless they are small enough to vassalize again). It's better to give them cored provinces.

I usually try to pay them off.

I play ironman so I can't reload. Usually if it is early game and will severely cripple my game in an unnessecery way I will restart the game. In later wars when I've been able to establish myself and was just an idiot for getting myself in such a mess I will just try to get peace terms as favorable as possible and then go from there and keep playing.

Only times I've lost a war badly is when I'm small enough to be annexed in a single war, so there's no quitting after the fact (it's just plain game over).
Once I've reached a size where I can't be annexed in a single war, I never lose any wars badly (if I lose at all), just because you have so many options to recover from a war going badly.

I have to say that I sincerely can't remember the last war I lost (several hundred hours of Ironman). It might be because I'm generally willing to do EVERYTHING it takes to win and am generally very careful with coalitions and cascading alliances. I've come close to bankruptcy in several wars, especially as a minor in the early game (Granada and The Knights come to mind), but I don't think I can't remember my last war that I lost - although I did lose some on purpose in 1.3(?) when releasing nations reduced global AE and helped keeping coalitions at bay.

I play as Ayuddthaya reconquest of PU with Korea[that had manchu+shun province] but i didnt quit i just play till the end . Also pay ducat to Korea.

As Japan game i lose to Russia and paid 3 province after 80 year i just took their capital for revenge =./=

I love not to just only win but acceptable lose is look more fantasy than always win and become boring game.

Omg just ragequitted my England game.

After converting to protestantism (in like 1510) I was overrun by rebels and nationalists (I own most of Ireland). My manpower hit zero and Scotland declared war. Peaced out but by now I had begun to loan money and beat down rebels in a vicious cycle. But I hung in there. By the early 1530's my manpower was at about 50% and I had begun to repay some loans (I think I had like 30 loans).

Out of nowhere Scotland declares war again. "No biggie", I thought, "I can handle it!". But boy oh boy was I wrong. My fleet (which was decimated due to financial issues) got wiped by the french! Yep, turns out they were allied and wanted to help the scots out. Soon after they landed troops. Loads of troops. My 20k stack resisted the first landing but then they just kept coming. The scottish army sieged northern England and the french dudes eventually captured London. No peace offer is good enough for them.

This is when I quit

I was playing a Netherlands game that I started with the "80 Years War" scenario. I managed a peace with Spain and the game proceeded. However, late in the 17th century, my colony of New Netherlands was attacked by one of Spain's many colonies. I was pulled into the war and my allies, Sweden and England, abandoned me. Spain was a behemoth. It had been beating-up on France the entire game. Needless to say, I didn't stand a chance. Although my navy protected my coastline, my overmatched army retreated into neutral Austria just to save it itself from overwhelming Spanish forces. They overran all my colonies and took over half of the Netherlands including Holland. I begged for peace and Spain gave it to me: all it wanted was the removal of a core on a formerly held southern African province. That was it! I was stunned, but I very happily took it. Here I was expected to lose provinces, colonies, money, and forced to release half of the Netherlands, but AI just wanted a core on a rather worthless African province?!?!
