I really like the idea of the new Tengri syncretic mechanics, but I think they could be more widely applied.
Specifically, the people of West Africa, who are nowadays overwhelmingly counted as Muslim or Christian, didn't switch overnight from their traditional beliefs to standard-issue Islam or Christianity. Instead, there was a long period of syncretism, both at the individual level and the government level. Countries where the ruling dynasty held to traditional beliefs still had a lot of Muslim influence, and the traditional beliefs were more an aspect of ethnic identity than something that was uniformly imposed on other ethnic groups. Then there's Kongo Church, which was nominally Roman Catholic, but in practice formed its own blend of Christianity with indigenous beliefs.
Suggestion: 'Animism' and 'Shamanism' (also Totemism probably, once Christians start showing up in North America) should also use syncretic mechanics, and the syncretic faith should slowly spread across the realm. There should then be an option to formally convert to your syncretic faith if it becomes dominant. (Same goes for Tengri - in effect, in Mongolia the proper the religion was slowly replaced by Tibetan Buddhism in a syncretic manner, but by the end of the EU era, Mongolia was definitely more 'Buddhist' than 'Tengri'.)
