Chapter 2. Turning Italy into an economic powerhouse (continued)

In mid July Montecatini finally starts researching Advanced Machine Tools. More researches are launched over the next few weeks.

Franco seems to have lost all of his courage just near the finish line..

Finally, on 16th September, the last enemy spy is arrested and executed.

A few days later, Italy guarantees Finland independence, protecting its rare materials trades. It’s just the first of a series of guarantees which reflect the increasing Italian importance in the World. The next countries which il Duce decides to protect are Portugal, Nationalist Spain, Czechoslovakia and Bulgaria.

October is the month another CVL is deployed.

Just as the RM headquarter was relaxing for the absence of any Russian flotilla around to have a look at our CVLs, a recognizance plane reports seeing a few Soviet ships sailing under disguise. By the way, Italy sells the obsolete Heavy Cruiser San Giorgio and a few destroyers to Germany for more supplies.

With the end of 1937 approaching, more industries are being completed all over Italy. Industrial improvements begins in Florence, as well.

In one of the last cabinet meetings of the year it’s decided to start espionage missions against the United Kingdom, to obtain reliable information on their forces.
The last good news of the year come from Ethiopia. Our engineers in Addis Ababa estimates that the province can be brought to full infrastructure by late ’40.

Italian importance for the World equilibrium is well known among Tannu Tuva politicians :D

@Hannibal Barca 2. I know. I plan to add a supply depot to Addis Ababa by editing the save file when needed. Unfortunately there is no way to have supplies there and it's quite reasonable that if Italy developed infrastructures, airports and land forts in that province it would have also stored there some supplies.

Wait a minute, and I'll make an event which says:

Italy stores supplies in Ethiopia :D

Feel free to write one! Just have it fire once for 3000 supplies (to substract from Rome depots when all coastal Ethiopian and Somali provinces fall)

ah, already made on which sends 5000 supplies and 1000 oil once Italy goes to war against UK, as it is then the supply path gets blocked ;)¨

Sent you it in the PM ;)
If you wants anything changed, just tell

seems fine.. It's the trigger which worries me. If I manage to grab Suez early on, and then I lose Massaua, I fear that most of those supplies will be just wasted.

Any way to make it a manually triggered event?

Yes :p

Just delete the trigger from the event :p
Then you can press f12 and write "event 99999999" and press ENTER ;)

And if you feel the supply values are too big, just change them and use the events more times instead ;)

Wow, Soviet ships? They must be coming all the way from Leningrad.
What gives me the feeling that you GOI for the Czechs is a scam?

Just remember to Capture Suez or Gibraltar FAST...
Without one of those, your units in Ethiopia will starve :(
or both, and Malta, optimally.

Chapter 3. Reinforcing the Army.

1938 starts with a more belligerant point of view from Italian cabinet.

At the same time, Italian research machine doesn’t stop to pull out new techs!

ricerca6-1.png

Mussolini and the rest of the ministers met in Rome in middle January. With more factories being completed it was decided that any new industrial capacity was to be expended reinforcing the army, just in case a war should come. Some hierarchs report that il Duce was very happy with the news that Lancia new solutions for building land forts will allow the Addis Ababa defense line to be completed by March 1939.

In March ’38 the third Italian CVL is deployed. Once again, Soviet ships are seen sailing near Italian shipyards. The Italian ambassador carries a letters which communicates Stalin any future ship sailing near Taranto without permission will be shot upon.

stalin3.png

Just a few days later a dispatch arrives from Addis Ababa, informing Mussolini that the first land fortifications have been completed. The joy doesn’t last much. The next day Hitler announces the Anschluss!

addis.png

On the 1st of April another Heavy Cruiser is deployed. Not surprisingly, no Soviet ships are reported sailing near the Italian coast. Our threats have been effective!

Cesare Amè, head of Intelligence, reports to Mussolini on 18th April which 10 agents are now spying on the Uk. Il Duce decides to build a money stockpile and then try to grab blueprints.

A few days later Pariani, chief of the Army, presents to Mussolini two projects, asking for his approval.
The first one is called Progetto Drago (Dragon Project). This project claims that it could be possible to equip men with light weaponry and load them on 100 transport planes we used so far for redeploying purposes. Along with a new fiber discover by Montecatini labs that will give us a division ready to be air deployed anywhere is needed.

The other one, Progetto Nettuno (Neptune Project) involves Malta. Our scout ships reports seeing it light defended. If we should come to war with the United Kingdom any day, we would need a small but efficient force to take it. It’s possible to train a few elite units on Lampedusa, but it will cost money and they’ll need some specific equipment. Excited, il Duce allows both plans.

By the end of June, new land fortifications on the northern side of the Addis Ababa province are completed.

With the expansion of the Tobruk airport to hold 400 planes, Giuseppe Valle convinces il Duce that Progetto Drago units could be used with success in case of a war with UK to connect in a fast way Lybia and Ethiopia. A new airport begins to be constructed in Kufra.

kufra.png

Badoglio completes on August his research on the Mass Assault doctrine. He founds some tricks to cut Inf units cost. Congrats! Cantieri Ansaldo begins working on materials for Progetto Nettuno, while Balbo has some ideas which could be useful for Progetto Drago.

A few days later the 4th Italian CVL (RM Sagittario) is deployed.

@Hannibal Barca2: thanks, I'll keep them that way :)

@Maj von Mauser: Probably they are moving from Leningrad to Vladivostok :p
I have a strong will to protect Czechoslovakia from any comunist influence :D

@rcduggan. Malta is one of the first provinces in my "to conquer" list!

A minor update, I've been quite busy these days.
I was wondering.. did anyone try to connect Lybia and Ethiopia with Paras?
I could deploy a few air bases in the desert, and that would allow a few paradrops. After all Italy starts with a Transport and the provinces to conquer are just 3.

make sure you get it before the Brits have a chance to heavily reinforce it like IRL.

Updated the last gameplay post with a few more months and fixed troubles with an image :)

@robou: thanks! Too bad war is still a bit too far.
@rcduggan: according to our subs Malta is defended with a single division right now. If Progetto Nettuno can be completed by 1940 it's likely we'll be able to take it in the first days of the war.

ROFLED!!

Excellent update!

Viva L'Italia!! I'll be following this one, nice updates so far

Chapter 3. Reinforcing the Army (part 2)

September is a month full of news. First of all new roads and railroads are built in the Gondar and Dese provinces. Land fort expansion in the southern part of Addis Ababa province is also completed. A similar fortification effort begins in Gondar and Dese as well, as soon as Milan and Naples new factories are finally built. Il Vallo d’Etiopia (Ethiopian Wall) is about to become reality!

etiopia.png

Italian economy is strengthening. :D

ics3.png

On October, the industrial capacity used to build new factories in Bologna is invested in a massive order of Improved Light Cruisers with Fire Control brigades. Cantieri Navali Riuniti reports the first one will be ready in April 1939.

prod2-1.png

Balbo finishes his Battlefield Interdiction Research. Progetto Drago can proceed. More or less the same week, several new Escort Fighters are ordered to Fiat.

ricerca8.png

In mid November, one more Heavy Cruiser is ready. A few days later, a serial of Improved Heavy Cruisers is ordered. This concludes any other naval improvement project at the moment. :(

CA2.png

With Pescara factories being completed, Italy can now fund more research programs. Beretta begins airborne divisions training operations on the Gran Sasso.

ricerca9.png

The year ends with one more CVL deployed in Taranto and more fortifications built in Addis Ababa.
Army reinforcement, after a full year spent on it, is almost complete.
