Has something changed with Vassalisation AE?

I am playing as Mamluks and I have won a war against Byzantium. The war itself is a standard conquest of Athens so it is not a no cb, but Athens is the only claim I made.

However I noticed that vassalisation of Byzantium is 57 AE, while full annexation is 41 AE.

I was under the impression that vassalisation is cheaper with AE than Annexation but I am not sure if this a bug or intended mechanics as I haven't kept up-to-date with patch notes etc. But I am happy to annex then release as that will restore relations with my new vassal.

annexing still generates more AE than vassalizing(but the difference became smaller, because the base AE for ceding a province was reduced from 0.75 to 0.6 AE per dev while the base AE for vassalizing stayed at 0.5 AE per dev). But the AE warning does not include dead countries anymore. If you vassalize Byzantium, you will get 57 AE with Byzantium, but less than 41 AE with all other countries(about 34 with the country which gets 41 with full annexation).

Thanks for the explanation it is appreciated. I imagine if there were more Orthodox in the immediate area the difference from losing the dead tag with the ae displayed would not be so apparent. But as Byzantium is relatively isolated culturally/religiously etc it really is cheap real estate.
