firstly :

Is it the right thing to do :

I am using my B'tches ( daughters ) to put into my cities after they have popped out a kid or two -- I arrange marriage the kids to the same culture ( it would appear this game is racist -trying to create a master-race for social equilibrium and monetary gain )

I also revoke any city ( mayors ) titles then put my own bloodline into the position ..THEN when i build the remaining cities in the county from the FREE slots - I assign the same KIN to manage 3 cities in the same county

I have noticed that i get more money this way from taxes - rather than just having a nobody running them

Is their any problems with doing it this way ? am I putting too many cities into the hands of one person ? will or can they turn against me ?

I have tried to apply the same rule to BISHOPS - i only have one per county and what i have done is: have one bishop running 4-5 churches in different counties ..... when i look at the tax revenue he only pays me one lot of taxes ... is this meant to happen or is it a bug ? if i have separate bishops i get more money WHY?

one of the in game hints is limit your direct vassals - but it would seem this does not work with bishops ..HAS anyone else come across this or could you advise me how you do it

MY next dilemma is - dishing out duchy's ( i am not far into the game and am kind of new ) .... i have been trying to keep earls and counts weak by destroying duchy's and then either keeping the balance of the counties to avoid being challenged or create a fragmentation of loads of people owning the counties so no one can challenge for the duchy -

IS THIS^^^^^ the right way to go about things or should i be a bit more relaxed ? also what is the tax income from a duchy if i am the ruling king ? are they considered the FEUDAL TAXES ( in the taxes screen )

i think i am being too heavy handed , also what are the benefits Vs the dangers of allowing players to wage war ie: the crown authority what is the best setting ?

Ive never done the whole giving cities to one person but the duchies you should keep to a minimum if you want to keep the realm full of less powerful vassals like your doing until you get to your vassal limit then you have to create and give duchies out. Can't answer the crown laws since I play with conclave but before I think I kept it at medium.

Edit: that is my personal play style

well it seems you can't put your bloodline in cities -

as soon as the person you put in dies the family ends up back in your court and a random GUY is elected into the position- rather than the family next in line

what a waste of time that is - i don't see the point in being able to give them a city title

Well, cities and temples are not supposed to be in noble hands. They are more like county upgrade or building from Total Wars, Europa Universalis etc.

one of the in game hints is limit your direct vassals - but it would seem this does not work with bishops
Direct vassal limit doesn't count baron-tier vassals (guys with brown ring around their portraits).

if i have separate bishops i get more money WHY?
Catholic bishops pays you only if they like you more than they like pope. You can check it in religion tab (the last one in the button panel right of your character portrait).

as soon as the person you put in dies the family ends up back in your court and a random GUY is elected into the position- rather than the family next in line
Well, I heard there IS one trick. Open elective means some random guy from X court inherit after X die; if there no eligible guy, one is generated. What it means, if your brother-mayor have some family members in his court, one of them can inherit. So try to marry your daughter to your brother-mayor (as burgher he won't be seeking for wife, so you must find one for him), and when their son become adult, hope he will get the title.

the succession for cities sucks big time - there is a difference in tax revenue when having family holding the position

i have spent about 5 hours putting all my daughters into the cities ( had one son and 7 daughters )

Like I said :all the families i put in have kids in succession and I marry off the kids before i put them into the city - Now they all are going to end up back in court and i will have a court breeding like rabbits in incestuous behavior as we are all the same blood line

There must be some sort of trigger that produces kids when you assign titles to family - as all of them have a brood of children now 3-6 each

i think i will go and look for a MOD

That's more of a modding question.

Now, to summarize the answer:

1. Cities aren't hereditary

2. Giving all bishoprics to one bishop won't help you in any way

P.S. I wouldn't be surprised if a moderator came along to force you to change your name.

it's ok i found a MOD that gives the same succession to all vassals including cities as that of the succession law you pass - at least it's a bit more realistic ie: law of the land ...pretty pointless if you can give away mayor titles only for the title to last only till the death of that character

this forum is pretty forked up - loads of enraged people with nothing better to do than MOAN

Welcome to the Internet. I've been deep into three different gaming forums now and they all looked pretty much exactly like this one: some people champion everything, some people hate everything, most (like me, usually) are somewhere in between.

There's no point in granting cities to kin, or try to keep them in the hands of kin, too much micromanagement and it only affects the dynasty prestige but just a little.

The giving multiple cities to 1 guy is a good strategy, they get more taxes, so pay more taxes and upgrade their cities faster. But you can't give them too many cities, being over their demesne limit cripples their income. They might even grant one city to someone else and you are back to square one.

Granting bishoprics to kin is a good method to remove the individual from succession. And it is much easier to keep it in the family. Enact free investiture and nominate another kin as successor. Do it with a prince-archbishopric and it will have a positive effect on you dynasty prestige too, as well as having a loyal powerful vassal.
