Please let us feel the DIFFICULTY and CHALLENGE of pursuing a woman.

Say, if she's a princess, we should do A LOT MORE than just one click.

At least there should be tens of clicks I guess.

And most of all, make every romance REWARDING. Wonder how? Well, I don't know!

But just please! Make it rewarding!

Have some fun.

OH! I just figured out how to add challenge to the Romance!

Add some rival(s) in love!

YES! RIVALS IN LOVE!

RIVALS IN LOVE!

RIVALS IN LOVE!!

RIVALS IN LOVE!!!

What a wonderful idea!

P.S.
That said, the chance of someone laying any other`s woman shouldn`t be too small. So as his wife getting laid by others if he is too bad as a husband. I know this part is already implemented in the current game. But I don`t think it`s enough.

What I`m suggesting:
Make a new window, displaying rivals in love, of each woman (including your wife).

Let`s think how many buttons we can add to that window (namely how many crazy things we can do, show your creativity here please!).

Let`s think how many things we can do to those rivals on her list.

Keywords:
Monthly gifts, weekly dating, children, family holiday/activities, hobbies, jewelry, dueling for love, risking one`s life rescuing the kidnapped loving woman, brand new castle as a golden house, etc.

Dueling for love!

Brand new castle as a golden house!

Don`t miss these two!

Well, if she's a Princess and you're an Emperor there should not be much more hassle then sending a marriage proposal to her father. I agree with you on the subject that when it comes to romance(not marriage) there should be some more depth rather than a random event deciding whether you will love you wife or not. There should also be more option to try and romance ladies that you are not married to, especially those who are not married yet. I'd also love to see some kind of trait or modifier marking ladies that are rumoured or known to have a bad reputation, and prestige hits for actually accepting them as your wife if it comes to that. If you have a betrothal with a girl to your own heir you should also get a modifier allowing you to easier educate the girl on your own. I think further that the power of your realm and not only prestige and title tier should matter. If you're a King with a kingdom over most of western europe you should have an easier time to marry compared to the King of Wales.

The main problem I see with seduction plots is the AI using them far too much however. I don't want every woman to become a slut like in the AGOT mod where you look away for a second and woops, your wife now has a lover. I want these things to be fairly uncommon if not initiated by the player.

In terms of marriage you should not need to pursue her before if you're powerful enough though. Maybe it could work if you're not allowed to marry her by normal means and then elope with her instead, that would be good unless as mentioned above, the AI didn't use it all the time. I would hate having to be an even worse tyrant than currently because some lowly baron runs of with my daughters and sisters. That's something which would make me immensely pissed off to the extent where I would wipe their entire dynasty out(incl kids ofc) and put my lass in the dungeons permanently for it.

actually, it should just be one click: This is an arranged marriage, not a loving marriage.

i look out my window and see the princess of france, whos sons will get claims to the throne of france. thats all the reason I, king of Burgundy, need to go out and ask her dad to let me or my heir marry her

I don't think it should be one click for marriage. After all, EVERYONE often competed to marry an heiress, or the most eligible princess.

Which was usually decided by the father on political grounds and not because of romantic seduction skills.

That's what the minnesingers did.

Still, there could be more events when and how we become lovers. What is the reason we become lovers of somebody else, that is missing.
Maybe as well that , say my wife and i are lovers, she approaches me somehow, maybe after a war or a crusade ended or somesuch....or i do approach her.. somehow.
Well, romance and all that. :D

In that case, why is it first come, first served? Perhaps there should be some kind of proposal interface where patriarchs can manage the suitors for their daughters/sons? It would have to be timely, assuming after x months a suitor would give up and find someone else, but it would allow the AI and players to select the best match from a variety of suitors rather than just taking the first match that comes along.

this. if you could implement an event that makes it after the 16th birthday you have a year to get the proposals in, then the father (or matrineally, the mother) decides what's best for their kingdom (or daughter...whatever)

This would be a pretty good idea. I think marriage ages should be reduced however.

Rivals in love would only work for women who are not spoken for. If you're a King I don't think I even need to remind you what would happen to the poor person who was found sleeping with the Queen. It's not like the King would just close his fist and say "Aaargh, I have a rival in love, now I need to prove myself better so my wife chooses me". I think you're basing your suggestions too much on our modern era. You seem to think that women just slept around like it was the 21st century. Most sane people would not even consider sleeping with the queen just due to the obvious risks with it. All of this could work as a courting process but it should definitely not be the case for women who are already married, it should be particularly harder to romance women who are already married and it should depend both on their traits and their opinions of their own husband compared to you with a heavy base reluctance modifier. Adding some courting processes could be pretty interesting though, including kidnapping the woman if you're not allowed to finally marry her and she likes you the most out of her suitors. It should still be very hard getting in bed with her before marriage though imo, tumbling should mainly be restricted to courtiers of lower birth. If you kidnap a woman it should have pretty dire consequences though, resulting in some kind of casus belli for her father/brother(whoever is her legal guardian).

What you're asking for sounds much like a modern dating simulator. While some minor suggestions might be applicable to the timeframe such as kidnapping and dueling most of it are not.

Because marriages were arranged. They were about politics, not love. Love was secondary. You didn't marry after winning the princess over like in some fairytale. Often, you wouldn't even meet her till your wedding, or at least, REALLY shortly beforehand. If her father agrees she'll marry you, she'll marry you. If you grow to love eachother, that's great. If not, that's what mistresses (or the odd divorce) are for.
