advice to a n00b regarding russia...

Okay. I´ve not been playing too much EU2 till now. The other day we started a nice MP game in the 1492 scenario where I took Muscowy. At first I tried to straighten out things and get some cash flowing while slowly expnding my empire. At first I got Estland and Livland. Pskov was diplo-annexed after Russia replaced Muscowy. In the south I took Saratov, Ufa and Samara from the Golden Horde that became my vassals. Soon after that, the allies of the OE (AK Koyunlu and one more) attacked the Golden Horde, killed em, proceeding to Russia taking Ufa...

Its 1531, I´m hopelessly backwards techwise (6/2) and have hardly any money left (and a loan taken...). my troops are almost wiped out. not to mention 35% of inflation...
At least I´ve been friendly to my human neighbors...
(Poland, OE, France, Spain, Austria and Venice are human controlled.)

What can I expect to happen eventwise? Is it advisable to pick on the OE´s allies while the OE is distracted fighting off the joint forces of Austria, Poland and their allies?

looks like your screwed.. Scandinavia almost united under Denmark (must be a human player.. i don't see how an AI Den would beat Sweden..)
Ak koyunlu cutting you of from Siberia.

If i interpret the map correctly.. OE wouldn't have much trouble fighting both you around Crimea and the European allies.

taking Livland and Estland didn't gain you much since their neither state religion, nor state culture.. it would probably have been better to carve up Lithuania and risk war with Poland since Lithuania is mostly Russian/orthodox, giving you far more income then Estland/Livland

Denmark has been human controlled then abandoned...atm its ai.

dont really want to mess with lithy being a polish vassal, as I had good relations to both the OE and Poland up to now...still you´re right: Lithuania is VERY tempting.

You need to get to the siberian corridor, and also to get Astrakhan if possible. Wait until 1540 to get some nice claim events, ask The Ottoman Player if he will allow you to take your cores from Ak Koyunlu, if not wait until OE gets into a war, dow AK and offer OE seperate white peace immidiately. Tarnished reputation isn't really a problem. 35% inflation means that you either had a bankruptcy or that you have been diverting allmost all money to tresury. If the latter you need to stop that. Try not to divert any money at all to tresury if possible, (infaltion free) census taxes should give you 1/3 of your income or something like that anyway if you have built tax collectors everywhere. keep your army maintainance at 50% when at peace and be sure not to surpass your support limit with your land troops.

At the end of the day, if the other players don't help you you're finished in that game. See if they're willing to edit out your bankrupcy, then do as suggested and get a path through to Siberia as a priority. After that getting your Russian culture provinces off Lithuania should be your priority.

DO NOT release vassals - you need the income and tarnished reputation is not a problem. You get lots of good monarchs who will lower your BB score pretty fast anyway.

When you dow Ak Koyunlu, just make sure you have the forces to blitz them quickly so that even if the OE try and stop you, you can get some provinces off them.

No matter how nice a neighbour you try to be, there is bound to be some sort of trouble between you and poland / ottomans since they hold your cores...


and even if you are a nice guy, it doesn't mean that your neighbours will also be nice...

Seems like the only start which stops nonsense is 1520. No Mamelucks, no sweden-diploannex or other very strange things.

Apart from that opt for editing out bankruptcy apart from that hope for much exceptional years and do what the others said and get on Max good side.

the situation a few years later:

an exceptional year gave me -5% inflation, yay! I´m only at 33.3% now other countries seem to catch up.
I still have no troubles with my human neighbors, maybe I can hammer something out regarding Lithuania and Ak Koyunlu...
ATM I once again pick upon Kazan, their last province is under siege and will soon fall....
