Advice about iberian union.

I like play a lot the monarchy path that lead to "united kingdom of Portugal and Brazil", have lots of OP focuses.
Normally i just do bulldoze spain after civil war, and wait compliance build up.

Now im wanna try something different, the Iberian Union, i checked the wiki, its seems i can't do it as Portugal unless i take communist path.

So i have a idea about use the customization "drop down" menu to make spain take the carlist path, so i avoid the need to become communist.

But i don't know what will happen, once i accept the union event when triggered, i will get annexed by spain and lost all my Overpowered focuses and national spirits?
How's powerful is iberian union? its have a custom focus tree? inherits the spanish one or portugal? it get extra cores aside Portugal/Spain/Brazil?

To sum up, i have fear that i will end up "debuffing" myself in that way.

The only way to get Iberian Union as Portugal is to go communist, the Spain one I would assume annexes you into Spain, and the game ends.
