I've usually frequented the History Forum for a while now and all too often I've found the place at times being inundated by malicious ads - usually in what looks to be Chinese, Japanese and/or Korean writing. As an example, usually they appear like this:

And this is what is usually contained in one of the posts:

I've also noticed other sub-forums suffering the same issue, though the spam usually gets swept away by forum admins after a few hours (P.S: Kudos to them ;)).

But regardless. My question is: Are the forum admins or community managers taking further steps to hinder the spammers posting, and if so; determining and making attempts to block the IP's they might be operating from? The spam is feeling like its becoming a more serious issue... :(

Yes.

Tried, doesn't work any more. The IPs vary too much and we'd end up banning innocent users who are using VPNs.

They come in waves and right now we're sort of on the downward side of the trend. And at least they're not posting vintage porn like back in 2012/13. For now, just report threads that pop up using the report link at the bottom of the post. Generally we only need one per bot.
