I've noticed that all of the major user-mod scenarios for EU2 seem to be firmly grounded in legitimate history ((With the obvious exception of IES, but that's a different horse all together)). I've been thinking for some time now that it might be fun to throw caution to the wind and make a purely fantastical scenario; one based either in early pre-history (IE, the Tolkienverse), or one completely of fantasy. The AGC-EEP folks are really closing the book on the historical scenario, there just doesn't seem to be much more to do there. But I think there's a lot of ground that EU2 can cover that hasn't seriously been addressed before.

So, I've been sitting on some ideas for a while, but the recent " Historical Fantasia " post got me thinking about it more seriously.

How about a scenario:

(a) Based on the world of Tolkien. Remembering that his "Middle Earth" was always intended to be an older version of Europe, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to arbitrarily insert the various nations of the First Age onto the map.

(b) Or perhaps a legitimate pre-historical scenario? Be fun to see the Atlantians duking it out with various other mythological and near mythological nations.

(c) Or perhaps a scenario set during the collapse of modern civilization? The Modern-day scenario didn't work out for various reasons.. but how about a fantasy game using the modern-day world map, with the meta-plot of a sudden collapse of technologic society? (Some fanatic chemically neutralizes all the world's oil, for instance) The more I think about it, the more interesting this one is.. the US shattering into a dozen sucessor states, Europe's long peace disintegrating.

A few ideas I'm playing with. I'm still teaching myself the scenario editor, and event language; have been lurking here silently for the last few months. What I'm looking for is people willing to collaborate on these or other similarly kooky ideas, or just bounce around ideas in general.

cheers

Post-modern day scenario

The post-modern day scenario sure sounds quite interesting... there is also no shortage of potential premises for such situation. Although, considering EUII's engine, it probably would be best able to accomodate a scenario based almost on a Mad Max-type of scenario, as EUII does not really provide adequate support for things like intercontinental missiles, planes (and transportation of troops by plane), and democratic societies - options such as royal marriage would probably make a lot less sense with a republic which does not have royalty as per se. Of course, in a post-apocalyptic scenario, I would imagine the focus would be the new warlords and/or successor states to most modern nations struggling to get out of the dark ages.

It could, at least in theory, be a very interesting premise, and the storyline could later determine what kind of countries/sides are involved, what their objectives are, etc. For example, would a Russian successor state(s) be trying to recreate Russia, or would they be turning their eyes abroad? Or, in a "new dark age" scenario, would fragmented remains of modern nations have an option to reform the nation based on certain conditions? Are there going to be any potential superpowers with a number of highly beneficial events coming their way, destined to be extremely overpowered? (think Austria in vanilla EUII)?

It is definitely something I would be very interested to see, and lend a hand with.
