Come on... I'm playing as Alexios Komnenos in the Alexiad start date and some landless Doukas who lives in his brother's court in Adrianople can raise 15,000 troops when I can only raise 10k (including Varangian guard and retinues) in 1090?

The problem is the warfare system in all paradox games suck. Ultimately its just about numbers. ageod do a much better job at modeling armies with their stances and postures and evade combat orders

Ah. Adventurers currently work exactly as they do in vanilla, albeit with lower numbers of troops spawned.

If someone has an actual suggestion for what to do with it, that doesn't involve turning it off or a vague direction to look at another mod, that would be fine. I'm open to adjusting the system--eventually--provided it's something that can actually be modded.

Anyway you can tie the spawn to the Adventurer's Diplomacy skill, the tier of title hes gunning for and a bit of randomness so theres a chance for a small adventure party or one thats a good threat to take the title. Hell for good measure if your able to tie it to his family prestige to if you can so an unknown wanting land can't on average get as many as say a rurik or a karling could.

Well, the Game of Thrones mod take an interesting turn with adventurers. They basically cut down the number of free troops that the adventurer receives. To compensate, they added an event where the adventurer asks for money to people and then uses that money to recruit more soldiers.

I don't know if the GoT people allow other mods to use their code, but I can send you guys a patch with the updated event if you want.

I could perhaps take a look at it for ideas, but I would not want to use their code even if they were willing to give permission.

I have a few ideas on how this might be revamped, anyhow--though doing the actual coding would be no small undertaking. Essentially what I'm thinking is:

If an adventurer is created, he starts moving from court to court looking for support--generally picking those who have no love for the ruler they're targeting, or who have reason to be friendly to him. The ruler can either turn them away, let them go about their business, or offer support. Perhaps they can even make an offer to the targeted ruler, if they're devious, to deal with the adventurer.

Either way, if the adventurer is allowed to stay in the court, he builds up a variable (or amount of coin) which goes up the more support he gets and based on his Diplomacy and/or Martial skill. As the variable reaches certain stages, the targeted ruler is informed of his progress.

If he doesn't manage to gather support (get to a set level of variable/coin) after a certain amount of time, he gives up. If he does, he gathers a set amount of troops--and can hire more if he managed to go over the set level. If his adventure succeeds, an event fires for each person who gave him support...and he'll have to cough something in return (unless they're generous).

Honestly, I think it's the logic behind the adventurers (or lack thereof) that pisses people off, mostly. They can't imagine how this penniless character manages to whip a huge army in the middle of nowhere. Getting some feedback that says where he's going and who's helping him would go a long way to making people be better with it (and would take a more reasonable amount of time, not to mention favor adventurers with the charisma/skill to actually pull it off).
