Is it just me, or does the combination of regular screenshots and new box art and the fact that HOI2 is a rebuild/upgrade of an existing game supported by a number of excellent choices for beta work (Steel, etc.) seem to indicate that HOI2 is much nearer to release than some fear?

Honestly - it seems like Christmas is more than reasonable at this point.

Indeed from the looks of everything the game is done. I bet they are just debugging the crap out of it and most likely fleshing out some of the content. Research teams for the minors etc... some of the betas are still asking people to help with finding pics/photos for some of the research teams so they should be close to done. On the other hand if they really bug hunt and play balance like they should i can easliy see it taking until next march for a release. I hope not but i would rather have a very play tested stable balanced game than a buggy release. Blizzard is the model all gaming companies should follow where that is concerned IMHO. The games they makes are notoriously late and extremely balanced and bug free by the time they come out.

Oh man Im in the same boat, I just bought CK off Ebay cause I didnt want to wait for the north american release. I was anticipating not HAVING to buy HOI2 till next year....lol, is it me or are there ALOT of great games coming out in the next few months?

Sims 2, Rome: Total War, Evil Genius, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, Pirates!, The Movies... (Though some of those may not come out until next year.) Nope, it's not just you.

Of course, those other games can wait.

Well HOI 2 and Rome Total War will have to wait for me until i'm back from uni at christmas. If HOI 2 is out then, it'll be good.

Though I think Rome is out in October, so i'll be begging for that as a chrissy present

I think I'll buy both HoI2 and Pirates only after Christmas, or, better still, in February, to avoid the damage my grade took when I purchased Vicky before Christmas last year

Well, notice that most of the screenshots are all taken from a date that is close to a historical battle, so they are probably just doing the battle scenarios and the 1944 scenario first. The 1936 scenario will take the longest though, since it requires the most play testing and balancing, since it has the longest timeframe.

I would guess HOI2 will be available in late november or early december...


- looks more or less finished - at least the features they showed us so far

- with the experience gained from HOI there won't be that much debugging and play-testing necessary

- as even HOI isn't really balanced even with v1.06c (or better said v.106c is even more unbalanced then v1.05c) I think most of the balancing issue will be solved based on the forum feedback after release

- there is no need to design the box more then 3 month before release !

But on the other hand thay probably just have to copy the work they did with HoI, they got the leaders, the OOB, and so on.
With the new battle scenarios they have to research those things again.

I'd guess HoI2 is almost ready, but judging out from their planned release of HoI: Platinium first...

OTOH, it gives them more time to finish it, and that might be the plan?

i would agree probably not so far off...Simple reason in August announced Paradox had got for the licence to Diplomacy and Squad leader.You dont pay out money in either cash or time then do nothing.Those 2 games will require development in the not so far away future.
As Paradox is not such a large company it will mean that sooner rather than later resources would need to be concentrated on those franchises.

Result Id guess and thats all it is that we will see HOI2 sooner rather than later.
