Now that the update has been out a few days how do people find this change? I wouldn't say my worst fears have been confirmed but trying it out it doesn't feel fun to have FCL swing on occasion. I had one fleet split and no admiral of sufficient level to take over, which resulted in fiddly management. This wasn't helped by the bug where fleets can't follow each other so the split fleets needed to be control grouped to now travel together.

When it comes to copying fleet templates it's not the worst, but having to manually fiddle with numbers so that the new blank fleet will be under base cap isn't fun. Feels like it undercuts the convenience of the copy template button. There also seem to be bugs related to reinforcement and mercenaries.

I'm interested to hear other people's experiences.

I haven't had any problems thus far. Then again, my leader for some reason does not seem to die in combat.

I'm not a fan of this change. Massive increase to fleet micro.

I think I'd be better with it if each admiral only got a single, one-time increase to CL, maybe as a sub-class option. The current system is pain when I have to use the irritating "Fleet re-arranging" buttons that can't be used from the fleet manager every time an admiral dies of old age.

I'll chime in to agree that this is a cool idea where the execution feels irritating and fiddly.

If I replace the admiral with a new, lower-level admiral, the fleet cap is still higher than the default, but lower than it was, so I can't use the reinforce button without heading into the fleet management button, nor can I easily merge some of the overcap ships back into the fleet without more irritating micro.

Ultimately it seems like there's a choice between designing fleets to stay below the default cap and thereby not using the new feature at all, or dealing with a bunch of annoying micro when an admiral dies. It kind of feels bad either way.

I just want to announce that my leader suddenly died in combat after more than 150 years of service. I made a lan´dmark in their honor, which people will forget about in like 5 years. I also now have around 20 fleets instead of one.

When I first heard about this problem, I thought people meant that when you have, lets say, a 100-capacity fleet, where 50 of them was from the admiral, that if the admiral died it would just make the excess split up into a thousand pieces. But, well, I now see the problem ... my fleet literally split up into fleets equal to the number of surviving ships...
