I know that three of these four Focus Trees have been reworked already, but please hear me out :)

Firstly, I would like to address the issue with the in-game spamming of various (un-historical) factions, alongside the historical ones. I think it would be far better if HoI4 only could have a single possible active faction for each political ideology.

Allies = Democratic = United Kingdom
Axis = Fascist = Germany
Comintern = Communist = Soviet Union
Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere = Non-Aligned (Monarchist) = Japan

Members of each faction should still be able to take over the leadership of their faction, if they qualify and are stronger than the faction leader (UK > USA).

Each of the four faction leader nations should have Focus Trees that ensures that they are the main driving force of their ideology/faction. Germany, Japan, USSR and the United Kingdom should still have multiple alternative routes to go down through. However, these four nations should NOT be able to change ideology or faction (unless they are defeated militarily).

In Germany the military would still have the focus to oppose Hitler. But the military-junta would remain fascist and get focuses to restore the borders of the German Empire (incl. colonies) and re-establish hegemony over Central Europe. Germany (GER-tag) should only have fascist demagogues, so the player couldn't turn Germany communist, non-aligned or democratic.

In Japan there should be only two paths instead of four: "Go North (against the USSR)" favored by the Army or "Go South (against the USA)" favored by the Navy. Either path would have many sub-routes and decisions, maybe offer friendship to the Chinese if you plan going against the USSR? However, the Japanese should be locked into the Non-Aligned/Monarchist ideology and they should remain leader of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere (unless China in an alternate route joins them and become more powerful). Japan (JAP-tag) should only have Non-Aligned demagogues, so the player couldn't turn Japan communist, fascist or democratic.

In the United Kingdom there should be a three-way choise between either "De-Colonization", "Steady As She Goes" or "Imperial Federation" in the Focus Tree. However, the various paths should all be democratic with various degrees of either appeacement or confrontaion against the other factions, depending on how aggressive they behave in the world. "Steady As She Goes" would be the historic UK path. Whereas the "Imperial Federation" path would allow for the annexation of the whole Empire and a more agressive UK path. While the "De-Colonization" path should open up for a less aggresive UK path and a possible earlier alliance with the USA, if the USA remain democratic. United Kingdom (ENG-tag) should only have democratic demagogues, so the player couldn't turn the UK communist, non-aligned or fascist.

In the Soviet Union there should be at least two opposing main lines. Maybe: "Side With Stalin" or "Side With Trotskiy"? All paths should be communist, One historic path and some alternate "Red Alert" scenarios! Soviet Union (SOV-tag) should only have communist demagogues, so the player couldn't turn the USSR non-aligned, fascist or democratic.

Just a tought.

As someone who thoroughly enjoys the chaos HoI 4 offers, I must respectfully disagree. A lot of the enjoyment I get from this game stems from situations like multiple fascist factions who are battling against each other or the existence of four China's.

Well I like the idea of the current game having multiple similar factions because it makes things more complicated and conflicted.

Everything was awesome in my Germany with Adenauer game. I had a two front war with Italy and the USSR, and had most of the European minors in alliance.

Everything was fine until I beat Italy and their faction members and made them democracies. Because democratic Italy joined my faction then decided to declare war on France to take Savoy :(. So now there's a European civil war going on between the various democratic states because Italy I guess is allowed to take aggressive war focuses even without Mussolini.

I don't mind ahistorical to a small degree but it should be ahistorical that makes sense. The various factions and alliances make sense.

USSR declaring war on UK? Can't see much Utility in that.

Then UK decided to declare war on Belgium who was neutral. So much for Belgian Neutrality.

And it seems like the choices are... Historical railroaded events or crazy focus based stuff with no understanding by the AI of what they are getting into.

I too enjoys the chaos that HoI4 offers, and various fascist countries can still battle each other. Just like there still can be four Chinas in my proposal.

All the countries in the world can have multiple focus-paths that drives them towards democracy, fascism, non-alignment or communism. However, except the four preset-faction-leaders of the main WW2 factions, which should not be able to change ideology. This I believe will make the in-game AI programming a lot simpler, better and more enjoyable. :)
