HBS said no microtransations, but hey also said no publisher when we kickstarted the game. I hope they can keep this promise. I'm okay with expansions that contain more content, but not buyable skins.

Heres to hoping the publisher doesnt start trying to develop the game......like Mycom over at Armored Warfare.....

I don't really see a hot market for premium-pricing on paint jobs in a mod-friendly single player game. I'm putting that quite far down on my list of concerns; quite, quite far down.

What we really need is a UI to switch the color schemes in the campaign. They already have a few alternatives with some streamers having different color schemes from one another (on certain mechs) or OPFOR mechs sporting different schemes, but I don't see an in-game toggle on this.

WIll people be making skins for this game? Wont that break their ability to play MP? Or, like WoT, skins wont count as cheating and not break the game for them?

If it helps fund better expansions what is the problem ? If you want them get them, if you do not then do not. cosmetic things do not effect the game play at all.

I don't think cheating will really come into the conversation for many things in this game as the MP basically won't load if there are discrepancies between the two players files (ie. modded weapon performance or whatever). From what they were saying about custom logos, I would think the issue would be that modded skins just wouldn't show in MP and would instead be a singleplayer thing.

All told, will skins be modded in? Probably, especially after we get a proper UI for skin swaps. However, if HBS for whatever reason decided to sell really expensive skins (unlikely), that would seriously incentivize modders to make them, so it's something of feedback loop preventing that marketing scheme from making much sense.

At most, I would expect things to turn out like XCOM 2 with Anarchy's Children DLC - there were some props sold by the developers, but it wasn't a big part of the business model and had to compete with the Workshop props.

Huh? 40 bucks? How does $5 a skin for 36 mechs equal 40? More like $180 and thats for 1 skin for each mech from 1 person. Now go and make 2, 3, 4 skins per mech and sell em.

Idk, 5-10 bucks a skin, its how planetside 2 did it and they have universal skins, 1 skin covers 7 classes, every gun and every vehicle from 3 factions. I bought, eh, 6-7 different skins there.

I guess I missed ur point...

Or what? Like other games, a single skin for 1 variant of 1 mech should be $30? So if u wanna skin a CN9-A and a CN9-AL, we should have to buy the skin twice, despite it being the exact same mech? That sounds like russian dev greedy [Mod edit: Language]
Armored warfare does just that, sells u an entirely new copy pasta of a t-72 for $70 just so u can have it in blue....

He's saying that you get the game for $40 and $5 a skin is too much.

Really? Planetside 2 is Free to play and you get skins and other cosmetics for $5-10 a piece. I dont think $5 per skin is that bad really, esp if they are universal for the chassis. As in, $5 for a Centurion skin, $5 for a Highlander and they work on all variants.

I think 15-20 you spend in MWO for 1 friggin color is to damn much. $5 for a single full body skin? Thats not that bad lol.

This game is effectively the opposite end of the gaming culture spectrum from multiplayer F2P and the pricing models that go along with that. The customer base here has a totally different set of priorities and expectations.

The absolute outliers among the customer's tolerance for higher expenditures would be more like Total War or Paradox style DLC packages. Anything that even flirts with F2P pricing would create a scene that looked like cage cleaning day at Bedlam. HBS knows this. It is known.

Multiple patterns per chassis and UI interface to use it confirmed! :)

I'm trying to watch very little of the streams, but Sidestrafe has a whole bunch of options that he's clicking through right now - I think maybe four options on the Thunderbolt alone.

You access them through the Mechlab on a per-Mech basis, not through the captain's quarters miniature painting studio.

....different camo patterns like the one that the Backers and pre-orders get for the Shadowhawk.

I'm not getting a good angle on it for a screenie, but the Shadowhawk isn't just a different paint pattern - it's a unique model that looks just like the concept art from the store pages on Steam and GOG.

It seems like some other streamers with the current version have the Vanilla Shadowhawk, but the alternate model is in Beagle's stream right now.

I only have this poor screen grab as my bird watching has seen a few mishaps with the camera.

Here's an example of some alternate paint patterns - this wasn't even all of them for the Centurion (I think there were at least 6).

I just noticed on @HBS_Eck's stream from earlier today that there's a "Pattern" option next to a paintbrush in the mechlab, on the bottom-right:

New Bitmap Image (3).jpg

And his mechs definitely have different paint patterns than what I've seen from streamers using the pre-release build. "3" was the highest number I noticed, but if there's at least three, then I'm guessing they're not just for being a Valhalla-level backer.

I don't recall HBS ever saying that they would not be working with a publisher.

I do recall them saying there would be no microtransactions. They didn't include microtransactions in any of their previous games, and I see no reason why they would change that now.

Nope.
There's at least 6 patterns I've seen, and they unlock when you get the Argo.
