Bombadil mentioned during his stream that we will be able to buy additional skins for Mechs. I assume this means different camo patterns like the one that the Backers and pre-orders get for the Shadowhawk. My question is: Will we be able to buy different camo patterns as we progress through the game or is he referring to the possibility that additional camo skins will be made available as micro transactions that can be purchased through Steam or some other outlet?

I had not heard about this being a possibility but I admittedly did not spend a lot of time on the BT forums despite being a backer.

I think neither of both is true and Bombadil got something wrong. There should be no microtransactions according to HBS, and I don't see us getting other skins by progressing in the campaign. Maybe HBS adds some for free or with a future larger DLC.

Although it is true that there are a couple of extra skins as backer rewards. It's just that it seems there are no others, and no plans to add them yet. So 2 is all you get.

Almost forgot about this - was one of the Valhalla level kickstarter promises - not sure if these are technically a skin or not.

Bombadil had an alternate color scheme on his Blackjack at least

mfwEHos.jpg

I think on the Spider too. It would seem that this is a Backer scheme with 4 Mechs now on the list replacing [redacted]. If it's not the backer schemes, then he somehow changed his scheme up (before being on the Leopard too, as he had that on his Blackjack at least on the Magistry Metals mission.

Thanks all for the answers. I am not sure what Bombadil was referring to. I would happily purchase camo skins as DLC personally but I am fine that they are not being offered too. It seems strange that they used a couple unique skins as incentive if they were not planning on having other skins available somehow. That is why I asked.

Id gladly throw 5 bucks per skin in this game, maybe 10 if its real fancy.

Gotta fund this game somehow. Just hope they dont wind changing their stance and going full 80$ bundle retarded

40 bucks for 36 'Mechs and 55 Variants. 5 bucks for one skin. Your economic sense is slightly off its proverbial rocker.

As I recall he was asking that himself, something along the lines of thinking that it might happen because they've already done the SHD skin. Certainly not confirming it.

I'd like to have buyable skins - in the store on planets in game, for C-Bills. Like while you're picking up medium lasers and SRM ammo maybe you drop a few hundred on a new stencil or bulk supplies of some new paint color. I always love collecting little cosmetic upgrades in games. My personal Grand Theft Auto win condition has always been, not to beat the game, but to be the prettiest princess in Vice City/San Andreas/etc.

As it stands I haven't seen any of the streamers mess with the cosmetic options but at last word it's basically a matter of choosing your three unit colors (primary, secondary, and tertiary), a unit emblem, and then selecting a paint scheme for each individual mech in your bay. I don't think you get to color your mechs in non-unit schemes and I'm not sure if you get to decide where to place your insignia.

There won't be microtransactions; that's as set in stone as anything can be. The devs have flatly shut down that possibility many, many times. I'm sure any future expansions to the game will probably include new cosmetic options and paint schemes and unit decals and stuff but I am very sure we won't be buying them a la carte for 2.50 a pop.

i would gladly pay for skin packs if they were affordable and helped fund more more features to be released post launch for free.

I would too, but only if it's a cosmetic expansion pack similar to those found for XCOM2. I enjoy MWO, but the thing that turns me off most about it is the nickel and diming of cosmetic options. Forcing people to pay money for colours, or for patterns on a per-mech basis is a bit too greedy for my tastes. However, I would love to see some faction-specific patterns, and some interesting mercenary patterns in BATTLETECH.

I'm sure that modders will provide, but the developers need to give an interface for changing mech colours and patterns in the mechbay before modders can really get to work.

I’m aware that their last known stance was a resounding NO to micro transactions.

However that was some time in the past. I’d certainly be interested in an updated quote from HBS on the topic. Or if anyone has a quote from the last few months that’d be useful too.

Huh? 40 bucks? How does $5 a skin for 36 mechs equal 40? More like $180 and thats for 1 skin for each mech from 1 person. Now go and make 2, 3, 4 skins per mech and sell em.

Idk, 5-10 bucks a skin, its how planetside 2 did it and they have universal skins, 1 skin covers 7 classes, every gun and every vehicle from 3 factions. I bought, eh, 6-7 different skins there.

I guess I missed ur point...

Or what? Like other games, a single skin for 1 variant of 1 mech should be $30? So if u wanna skin a CN9-A and a CN9-AL, we should have to buy the skin twice, despite it being the exact same mech? That sounds like russian dev greedy [Mod edit: Language]
Armored warfare does just that, sells u an entirely new copy pasta of a t-72 for $70 just so u can have it in blue....
