I think there are still some alerts that could be useful to add:
  • Allies with medium/low war enthusiasm
    Being aware that allies might start dropping out is always useful, it'll probably also help new players realise what those values mean.
  • When nearing/hitting the points cap
    Changes in alerts are much more obvious than the current colour change.
  • When there is the risk of a PU ending on monarch death
    Pretty straight forward, helps new players as well.
  • Active trade/pirate fleets while at war
    Just as a reminder to check the naval situation. It is quite likely that you'll have a bunch of wars were the security of your ships is not in doubt and then one happens were it is and suddenly you no longer have boats to worry about.
  • Inactive colonists while there are colonies in range
    Similar to the conversion alert, pop-ups can get swallowed if a lot of stuff happens at the same time. An alert is a more obvious reminder than the small number in the top bar.

I always like alerts, because the animation at the top and the fact that it does not display text draws my eyes to them. While I've learned to live without alerts for a lot of these, it would be nice for newer players. I do feel the game should limit itself to about one row of active alerts, though. If I could commonly see more than that, everyone would start ignoring them.
