In CK 1 the number of TAGs was limited/set at a certain maximum, however it was possible to add a few user defined royal TAGs (unfortunately there weren't any available user defined ducal TAGs).

How will this be handled in CK 2, for instance will it possible in CK 2 to add ducal TAGs.

My apologies if I've missed a similar earlier question (in which case I would very much appreciate a link :)).

You should in theory be able to add in as many as you want (but practically, adding in too many will cause the engine to experience explosive diarrhea, which is the case in EU3). Keep in mind though that in CK2 it's hardcoded that provinces can only belong to one duchy and one kingdom. You can add in a new duchy, but if you want it to exist within the game's current map, you're going to have to take those provinces away from another duchy to give them to the one you created.

That (reassigning provinces) usually, like kingdoms isn't a problem, in fact that's the whole idea. Usually you wanted to improve the representation within the region you were playing in, in ck1 the user defined tags for kingdoms were a big help, whereas for duchies eventually you had to take away a tag in a different region, which IMO was worse.
This should never be exaggerated and 'cause the engine explosive diarrhea'.

OTOH some of the smaller duchies, like Limburg in the Low Countries, this time might (I have no idea though) make it into the game as a titular duchy.

By "cause the engine explosive diarrhea" he probably means it reduces game-speed significantly. He's mentioned an EU3 mod that adds a lot of tags and is significantly slower then vanilla at least one time before, and apparently killing most of the tags by annexing them doesn't restore your game-speed.

I'm not sure a bunch of titular Duchies in CK2 would have the same effect. They'd each use up some RAM, but if they weren't re-createable the game wouldn't ever have to think about them, which presumably means they'd use no processor cycles. OTOH since just about every EU3 tag has provinces, every EU3 tag could be created under certain circumstances, which means the game has to frequently evaluate whether those circumstances exist, which eats processor cycles.

But until we actually have the game we won't be able to test that.

Even if they werent re-creatable, theyd still have an entry in the history of the save and be ticked off the list for every event trigger thats considered just the same as in EU3 a tag that has no cores or even a history file still uses up running space so slows the game down.

but moslty, user added ones would only be used if you started with them or made events/decisions to give them out or edited saves to have them. But from precedent thatd be easy enough to do. Just not more than two to a province or itd take five minutes for a day to past at full speed.

He's just talking about the geographical de jure duchies and kingdoms, which are defined in the map files, those were the same in CK1. Provinces can still belong to someone else, and there can be titular duchies and kingdoms that have no hardcoded territory but can still own provinces. Venice is one example, it is a kingdom tier realm that only has 1 province, Venice, that's geographically in the kingdom of Italy.

Furthermore if it is like CK 1, then it is possible to assign provinces to a different ducal and/or royal title, so that is possible that a titular duke/king changes into an ordinary duke/king title. However in order to be recreatable a title has to be assigned to certain provinces.
