New countries?

Is it possible to make a new country like a whole new country with its own separate country tags etc? Like for instance the Spanish colonies Cuba, Guam and the Philippines - a successful revolution there without the Yanks butting in should make them a separate country right? On the other hand the Indian states should realistically be integrated with Great Britain after the Sepoy Rebellion of the 1850's.

Creating a New Country

Hello there, my modding friends.

I am trying to create the nation of New Orleans, a nation that will be ready to go and select on the GC. I've been through many files and changed many things, but I still have not been able to get that nation as selectable when I start the GC.

So far I've made New Orleans it's own .inc file (and tag: NWO) and made that .inc file enabled in the GC scenario file, as well as put it in the selectable area.

I've edits some other files, like the random leaders file, as well as put the NWO tag into the country file.

Still no luck. How can I fix this and make New Orleans selectable?

The problem might lie in that you cannot create new tags.

You must use 'u00' or 'u11' as make that your tag

that is unless something has changed since HoI and Eu2...

Yeah, I just discovered that. I updated everthing according, but I still run into problems. I can now select my country, but the little image that should be centered on the captial is instead centered on a random province that I think is in Africa. Also, my military, industrial, and prestige rankings are all -1. When I try to load the scenario, the loading stalls right before it is finish.

Changed the world_names.csv file to: U00;New Orleans;;;;;;;;;;x
Created a leaders.U00 and filled it with leaders in the 34000 range. Example:

Are you going to give us a claim on all the Louisiana Purchase territories? I think this is a great idea, we are a lot like a third world nation anyway - why not our own country LOL.

I have managed to get everything working now. The problem was that I was missing a } at the end of my .inc file.

Now, this is my latest problem:

I don't understand several things. First, why my nation is black in color. Second, why the troops are dressed for night combat :D, and third, why Big Ben is my capitol building.

Why don't I get this? Because this is my entry in country.csv:

U00;Blue;FRA;MIN;Blue;Red;9;1;X

Which corresponds to:

Country;main_color;leader_language;ArmyNationalitySprite;Coats;Legs;City;EndFrame;END

Now, I checked the city number, and England is most assuredly 0, not 9, as I have choosen.

Any clues as to why the game is ignoring my country.csv entry?

I think I have found something.

In the file 1836.eug, in its beginning, there is some interisting entries:

  • Capital (Here I found several province ID, refering to the selectable countries, so this must center the map)
  • Province (?)
  • Total (This must rank the country)
  • Prestige (obvious)
  • Military (ibid)
  • Industry (ibid)

However I didn't find the logic behind those numbers.

Have you assigned a name for your country, IIRC it must be done somewhere in names files. Just search them through with U00 to find the place, it's pretty self-explanatory.

Edit: I solved. My problem was into the country.csv. I put U00 entrie after the END entrie and it should be before!!!

Edit: Solved this too, it is the last entrie in country.csv and it relates with leaders.bmp on ...\Victoria\gfx\Interface\frontend (values from 0-31)

Are there end tags anywhere else that might cause a problem for me later?

There's already a tag for Cuba. It's CUB, I think.

But there none for Philippines, Guam and Puerto Rico.

While we are on the subject, wouldn't it be practical to have more countries able to seperate. The example of too many revolters in Louisiana will break off and form the country of New Orleans.
Also, if Desert is a possible revolting nation of the USA, then why wouldn't Utah declare independence (since it was primarily dominated by Mormons at the time), or Manitoba declare soveriegnty from Britain.
Could Kurdistan (or some Kurd dominated nation declare independence from Turkey as Armenia can?

I was pleased to discover that Quebec, Newfoundland, New York and New England could declare their soveriegnty. I hope that modders around will consider taking independence to a whole new level.

By the will of the god...erm Paradox...it is possible!!!
You need to edit file called world_names.csv(victoria/config), there you'll see 12 empty tags called UXX. Fill in the blanks and you'll have your own personal country defined, then create party file for it. If all that is done go to victoria/db and locate file called country.csv. Add your country UXX tag there and define it's colour on the worldmap and many other attributes.
This should be all...i guess ;)
