Adding a title to a special-title holder

Hello everyone, Im in a bit of a pickle.

Im currently playing a game as a Duke in Scotland, taking notes and planning on making an AAR out it. Due to a series of awesome events there is now no King in Scotland just three powerful dukes, well one duke and two duchesses. In anycase, the leader of the Breton Band invaded and conquered the Duchess of Moray. He took all the county titles yet not the duchy title. I want him to become duke of moray, doesn't even have to be his primary title, for aar purposes. I loaded up as him, cheated to give him money, then tried to create the duchy of moray. It does not allow special title holders to do this. I tried some of the codes, such as the addtitle code, yet that did nothing.

Long story short, can anyone tell me how to add the duchy of moray to landed captain of the Breton Band? I don't care if it be savefile editing or messing about in the cheat box, I want to be able to do this. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure EXACTLY how to do this but I'm pretty positive you can give him the title by save game editing. Perhaps someone more experienced can show you what to do and where to look.

I would have expected that you could use the "give_title d_moray <ID>" command to do it, but if that doesn't work there's a longer and more roundabout way that should do the trick. This is slightly convoluted.

1) Use "charinfo all" to show all character IDs.
2) Use "give_title k_scotland <Your ID>" to make yourself the King of Scotland.
3) Use "neg_diplo" to permit sending diplomatic proposals that the AI will refuse. Send the Breton Band an offer of vassalization.
4) Use "play <His ID>" to switch to the Breton Band and accept the offer. Switch back to yourself. Create the Duchy of Moray and grant it to the Breton Band.
5) Choose any of your vassals with only a single landed title, a count or baron. Use "give_title k_scotland <Their ID>" to make them king. Then use "give_title c_whatever <Your ID>" to take away their only land. The Kingdom of Scotland title should be destroyed.
6) If the above steps messed up any of your ducal laws due to you changing primary titles, use "allow_laws" to set things back to the way they were. Note however that this may result in fresh opinion penalties from your vassals.

If even the above doesn't work, then approach things from a different angle. Take some random courtier and use give_title to grant him the Breton Band's counties, then the duchy, and last of all the title of the Breton Band itself (probably d_breton_band).

huh, the give title command worked! I think i was typing in "give_title duchy_of_moray" rather than "give_title d_moray". Thanks for all the help guys! Now i don't suppose anyone knows how to change the breton's dynasty name? I wanna shorten it to just de Breton rather than de Breton Band. If I can't no big, I just want things to look neater.

You can probably do this via save game editing? I'd guess that the dynasty name is just stored in a central record, so if you open the save in a text editor, you can probably just search for "de Breton Band" and change it to "de Breton". Backup the save first though since I'm just guessing and you could easily make it unloadable.

thanks for the advice, but the guy died just before I saved. Oh well, I'll deal with the new bretons and their weirdly named leader Gael de Chui-Chilladein.
