Ingermanland was historically populated by the Ingrian people; Muscovy began displacing them, Sweden helped fill it with Finns. At least in 1444, under Novgorod, it should be Ingrian culture, in Ugric group.

Cornwall should be Cornish, why shouldn't it be? I don't think anyone would doubt that it was populated by Cornish people, and that the Cornish language, etc. is different from the Welsh at least to the degree that Wales would not be theoretically able to rule it without any cultural differences.

Finally, there should be a formable Kurdistan.

And as I were making a presentation about Russian federalism I found out that there a re a couple of oethnic groups in Idel-Ural region not represented. more precisely:
  1. Chuvash
  2. Mordvin
  3. Mari
  4. Udmurt
  5. Komi (going under the unaccurate term"Uralic").
These peoples didnt fall from the sky, and I bet they used to be a majority somewhere in 1444.
(I understand that not all of them will be added in the newst expansion, but a Mordvin/Mari buffer state (ATL possible) between Muscovite and Kazani would make a good change.

Q:
If culture group makes 10% of the pop in a region, but they are not majority anywhere, should they be ginven 10% of the provinces of the region where they are most numerous, or should they ignored altogether?
*If option one is more favourable, then this thread makes sense
*if option two is held by Paradox, then I might just stop posting.
I believe the second is favoured. A lot of what we're talking about has majorities in provinces, though, or isn't about majority culture in province (like adding a Kurd tag or renaming Zhili)

There are better cultures that could be added, such as Dalmatian (Latin group) and Slovenian ( South Slavic). Dalmatian should be added to Ragusa and Dalmatia as it better represents them than Croatian. I don't see why Slovak and Nitra should be added and Slovenia not? Makes no sense to me.
Oh, yeah, don't know how I forgot Slovenian. Maybe because it was one of the first things I noticed and objected to. Agree definitely, and it'd chip away at Austria.

Dalmatian is an idea but they've said they want no more one-province cultures, and Dalmatian was basically extinguished by the Serbo-Croatian stuff not long after the game starts, so maybe not as worthwhile.

Which reminds me of Friulian, Corsican and perhaps changing the culture of Istria to something Italic; former two less so due to single or thereabouts province, but I think Istria may have been majority Romance.

I mean better candidates for being added, as in adding more to gameplay as they are Europeam cultures. There is also much less debate over them and they are both known to have existed at the time. I'm all for adding the different Uralic cultures and stuff but how much will they add to gameplay? Not as much as adding European cultures

Thing is it could technically replace all Croatian culture on the Adriatic, they were all Italians of some sort at this time. Dalmatian could be the unbrella for all Latin cultures on the Adriatic.

Not in Lika though, but I can see it for the Dalmatia province (ideally split between Zadar and Split) and a potential Kotor province.

It's not that clear whether Kashubian was a majority against the Germans by 1444 when Ostsiedlung had been going on for quite some time... and it would be most accurate to have an event for ostsiedlung getting rid of the Kashubians not long before game start. But if they were indeed a significant majority in a decent area, the latter is still preferable.
Nnnot true. Barely any German had settled in Pomerelia, excluding Danzig of course. The data on Pomeranian Slavs is pretty vague at this point, but based on things such as nowadays distribution of Kashubians in the area(I know it's not very good source, but the Kashubs didn't really suffer from the post-war resettlement iirc) or the fact that Pomeranian rulers would use the Slavic names, at least traditionally, for quite some time into XVI century shows that their influence was still there. Oh, probably the most important: Kashubians are still extant unlike Polabians(except for Lusatians who could probably be in the game too?) or the Pruthenians(who, by the way, also should be represented). The ostsiedlung/germanisation was an ongoing process in XV century, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to include Kashubs in Tuchel, Stolp and maybe even in Kolberg - Pomerania could be encouraged to culture convert them. If PDX don't want to include them in the game then Tuchel's culture should be changed to Polish - this solution sound pretty unfair to me, though.

It's my understanding they just added Jews or Jewish religion (in a region they weren't even the majority lol), so why should not other small groups/cultures be added also, they could still make this part of a major culture group. Like Sami is Nordic for gameplay/historical purposes).

I would favour Dalmatian in Ragusa, Zadar (While Split could remain Croat, once Dalmatia province is split :) ), istria and the Cattaro province.

Also Friulian in Friuli (as their base tag they could use Aquilea or something) and also put this Friulian into Graubuenden as the languages there are both Rhaeto Romjance

would romansch be the plurality of graubunden in 1444? Looking at the maps I find on wikipedia, they seem to have been majority in the 1100s but then quickly vaning. But more importantly, I don't think raeto-romance languages, especially since they're spread out in provinces without geographic continuity and without any historical tag would be accepted by paradox-team.

Besides:

Whether or not Romansh, Friulan and Ladin should compose a separate "Rhaeto-Romance" subgroup within Gallo-Romance is an unresolved issue, known as the Questione ladina. Some linguists posit that these languages are descended from a common language, which was then fractured geographically through the spread of German and Italian. This position goes back to the Italian linguist Graziadio Ascoli, who first made the claim in 1873.[9]

The other position holds that any similarities between these three languages can be explained through their relative geographic isolation, which shielded them from certain linguistic changes, whereas the Gallo-Italic varieties of Northern Italy were more open to linguistic influences from the South. Linguists who take this position often point out that the similarities between the languages are comparatively few.[10]

But I'd like to see swiss being fractured. when it comes to these kind of geopolitical culture groupings, e.g. Swiss or transylvanian, I think it only works if the main cultures represented in the conglamorated culture is in the same culture group. I.e. hungarian and romanian is in the same culture group and the transylvanian saxons can go with them.

Swiss to me is problematic because it excludes the italian and french presence in the region. And that's why I'd like to see some culture changes in switzerland.

Switzerland, compared to what it was historically (arguably the HRE in general but specifically Switzerland) is really bland; they were beating Habsburg armies 10 to 1, having cantonal civil wars, they left the HRE ~1648 I think, and almost didn't fight a war aftewards; they doing some pretty interesting stuff. Even if the Arpitans and Romansh and whatnot aren't represented, it would be nice to at least make it more specific than "Swiss", given that areas like Geneva and surrounds were never German-speaking.

There were Three Leagues to represent the Romansh People it seems (all leagues have Romansh names in wiki alongside German). I can't seem to find at what point they were integrated into Switzerland, it only says they got closer to the Swiss after Musso War. They could be the first step to balkanize Switzerland.
