What about the total casualties statistics? I don't want DH to be a copy of AoD but it's one of the features I like there - to be able to see after a few years how did I do compared to the enemies or my allies.

why is POW forbidden?

Beacuse POW are not political correct and the paradox team love to depict political correct history

POWs in WWII were often treated inhumanely. For obvious reasons, Paradox will not code the possibility to commit war crimes and the like in-game.

This leaves the possibility of having POWs that are always treated well. However, this is whitewashing history, and would lead to all sorts of arguments with both apologists and history buffs. Hence, they remove these problems by simply not including POWs in the game, especially since POWs were not very important in WWII. Besides, considering the environment of WWII, it is very unlikely that any sort of POW exchange would occur.

I do agree that for post-war modeling, POWs and their release would be important, but that is an unfortunate casualty of the above problems.

(this is my reasoning, I have no idea if Paradox had the same.)

Not exchange but liberations...for example after Germany gets occupied the millions of Allied prisoners come free and hundreds of manpower points are to be added, but let's stop discussing this now.

I’m all for more realism everyone (and I am no programmer so correct me if I’m wrong modders/DH team) but do you imagine the sheer number of casualties that would be calculated every few seconds?

Barbarossa and the Japanese invasion of Japan would probably bog the entire game down…
