Hello,

Europa Universalis IV should have an ideology mechanic in order to further emphasize the importance of ideas.

Europa Universalis IV is a interesting fun filled game that offers you a very accurate simulation in the art of geopolitical development.

However, there is of course things that they have left out.

One of these is, Ideology. (It can kinda work like religions!)

I should be able to make my country Capitalist, or Communist, or Fascist. (These things didn't really develop until the late 1800's but still!) I believe this would be a good idea. Or better yet, let us make our own Ideology.

We should be able to spread our ideological influence to other nations, and different ideologies offer different benefits. Like, Feudalism, we obviously have the government type of, "Feudal Monarchy" but the game doesn't emphasize the, "Feudal" part at all. It simply changes a few modifiers and that's it.

We should have dynamic government names for the specific Ideology that we possess. For instance: An, "Oligarchic Republic" can be called a, "Socialist Oligarchic Republic" or a, "Socialist Republic".

Different ideologies have different modifiers.

Communism: Able to impose strict control over Military, Building, or Diplomatic construction. The player would pick which one to give further emphasis on and would have a boost in what ever one they pick. Much more influence over vassals, and as soon as this ideology is adopted, all vassals must convert or go to war.

Fascism: Able to do a, "Cultural Cleansing" which would set into motion a cleansing of any other culture in the whole country whilst you detriment the relationship with nations around the world. Players would be able to field a stronger military but would lack in public obedience.

Feudalism: Would be able to create and us the military of vassal nations. You can already create vassal countries but this will allow you to have even more control over them like, a personal union. You can give more privileges to nobles, which gives you more income, but lowers the happiness and obedience of the serfs.

Custom: Let us create our own ideology off of the foundations of another ideology. For instance: I want to make an ideology, so I will go to the menu to create one, and select an already created ideology. I will then use, lets say, Communism as a base to further develop a more customized version of such. Then I can name it: Consilium or whatever.

I hope you consider this, the ideas of a country, I don't believe, really make much of a different on a role playing scale. I want to be able to control my countries future in all ways possible, and this is another way I can do that.

-Thank You, Consilium

Sorry i gotta dissagree since this is kinda out of time frame, Karl Marx the "Founder of communism" was born in 1818, 3 years before the game ends.

And from wikipedia "The ideological roots of fascism have been traced back to the 1880s, and in particular to the fin de siècle theme of that time." So fascism was first seen around 1880. Feudalism is not really an ideology.

So i dont think your suggestion would fit in well in europa universalias.

But if you wanna play a game with these mechanics i could recommend "Victoria 2" its a great game from paradox and its in the right time frame for the ideologies.

I can't really see it adding a whole lot to gameplay, and from an RP perspective it is nonsensical because the sorts of ideologies you are talking about don't really exist in that manner.

BUT...

You could probably have some additional idea groups which reflect differing approaches to rule which would be similar to the idea of ideologies. Along the lines of...
Absolutism - MIL group (Harsh treatment cost reduction? Discipline, culture conversion cost?)
Liberalism - DIP group (accepted culture threshold reduction, -RR, Merchant?)
Bureacratism - ADM group (OE reduction?, stability cost reduction?)

I would say that a better soulution would be too add some factions, like with Ming.

It should only be available for the early monarchies.

It could be something like:

The Clergy: More papal influence, less tax, more revolt risk.
The Aristocrats: More manpower, less tax.
The peasants/town: Less manpower, less revolt risk, Maybe more tax

Clash of Communism, Fascism and Capitalism will be possible in the upcoming HoI 4, Feudal mechanics are in CK II and this is EU IV, a game that has a timeline that streches from the decline of decentralized Feudalism of old to Bureaucratic/Administrative, Absolute or Enlightened monarchies, and even reaches up to the French Revolution and Revolutionary Empires and Republics. But in EU IV you play a state, not a dynasty, therefore no dynasty mechanics, and ideologies are for a different timeframe.

I believe the thread is in the wrong forum, pal.

Political ideologies are not part of this game because once the king was the only authority together with Church and Nobles.
Nobles that gain power become Republic, Church->Theocracy.
The only ideological war is between the Revolutionaries that consisted the future for these ideologies, and the traditional monarchy and church.
I believe that EU4 should improve itself by maintain feature for Nobles, Church and Monarch power in realm, or the best closer to your idea, Whigs and Tories in Republic/Constitutional Monarchy. (crossing fingers next expansion about it)
