This is, frankly, the most annoying thing.

When the event to decide how extravagant the coronation should be fires, and it forces you down the wartime coronation path, please make it not do that, and instead, give you the alternative to entirely cancel your coronation.

There are probably other events in this chain, which should also check for "at war" and give you the added option to cancel entirely.

This doesn't make sense, and it probably doesn't make sense because it was one of the first event chains added in the game.

The coronation event chain was added with Hoy Fury, the very last DLC, making it one of the last event chains to be added to the game.

I stand corrected.

Additionally, maybe just apply the "See The Realm Prosper" definition of peace to coronation-breaking wars. It really does not make sense to have your entire reign poxed by the fact that a peasant revolt broke out in the tribal backwater of some vassal's vassal.

It does make sense, I suppose, to have to either do a wartime coronation, or cancel a coronation, for a real war of the kind that would also cause that ambition to fail.
