Diplomatic weight is composed today of :
  • Economic weight
  • Fleet power weight
  • Technology weight
  • Population weight
Trade value (TV) by itself produce a maximum of 1 economic power (with wealth creation policy or trade league), same as a basic ressource.

To make TV more interresting, especially in the late game, I think it would be a good idea to add a trade weight to the diplomatic weight.

Given that usually trade focused empire are also more inclined to do diplomacy, it would make sense and boost a little bit this less attractive ressource.

Is trade value not a part of economic weight? Since it generates resources i'm sure it's taken into account at least indirectly by what it's producing.

Yes it is. As I said, it produces at most 1 economic power. A single strategic ressource is 20 economic power, so I think it would made TV more interesting in late game if it was producing a bit of diplo weight by itself.
