I don't have an exact metric, but it would be good if we had, in the new game options, the possibility to choose a multiplier to the tech costs, which could be also linked to the crisis MTTH.
So, if normally you are supposed to reach the last techs around 2350, 150 years in, you could have modifiers to make it 1.5x to 3x longer (it could be a number you enter, though). This would guarantee more time spent with the first techs, but would make the early game much longer, since it would take from a few months to 3 times the time it normally take to reach the colony ship, so you would have much more time to build mines amd explore.
For those who think the game is too slow right now, they could also accelerate it, though I would never do that.
