Does anyone remember when CXL was in development? The development team ran a competition to have one building choice made and placed in-game by them.

The rules were simple. Post a picture of one real life building you would like to see in the game. (I remember there were plenty of pictures posted and some very good choices). After a deadline the completion ended and the developers chose and made one of the buildings. (Isabella's home I seem to remember). The building was made by them and put in-game. It was also displayed by way of a dev's diary. (On a side note this would be kind of useful for modders to see).

Any thoughts on running a similar competition?

Paradox have the final say on which building is made and can commit as much/little time to it as they see fit. I think the original competition kept interest in the game alive aside from being fun.

I'm not going to post a picture myself but how about it Paradox?

Or, maybe instead of using real life buildings, we can make our own designs. I think that would be nice.
Also, I don't have CXL but from the screenshots and videos I've seen of it, maybe it was the Gherkin that won because I see it a lot in the screenshots.

I'm sure it was Isabella's home. I followed the dev's diary. I remember the original competition was for real life buildings.

I think adding a good building contest would be a win-win.
The devs get less work to do (because some of it will be done for free by the community), the people get their fun.
Such approach will require some modelling tools though.

Manny-Moo, oh dear god, you have me in tears. Black Books is wonderful!

As for something like this - maybe! We're definitely hoping to work close with our modders and asset creators, but adding stuff that you make to the actual game can be iffy legality-wise, especially if it's pre-launch.

I'll keep you posted if something like this looks to happen, though!

As in, "yes, this is a mod, it's not mine, I don't garantee that it won't break the universe", but we believe it's worth of our product. It's something that we approve of."

This is something I've wanted to do for some time and we might be able to, since we have workshop support. Like put together a list of approved/recommended mods that can be downloaded via a few clicks.

Thanks for the reply. I understand the legality of it. I guess that's why when they made their choice for CXL they picked some ones home instead of a landmark. Much easier to get permission from the owner.
