Hello,
I was working on a pretty massive (to be) city and sadly I've hit the lanes limits.

Screenshot_101.png

It's a bit confusing why exactly I have so many lanes when I mostly use two-lane roads and my population is modest (110k), but that's beside the point. I have 16GB of RAM and since memory is pretty cheap these days I'd be even willing to buy more, if that'd help(which it turns out it wouldn't).
EDIT: It turns out I have phantom lanes that're caused by one of the mods I use.

However, browsing through the forums I gathered that the limits are hardcoded into the game. I certainly won't go about decompiling C# code (such workaround had been suggested on one of the threads) for a couple of major reasons:
  1. I play on Linux, hence I don't have the tools, and I don't have the time.
  2. Whatever changes I make are going to be lost on the next update.
So, while I understand the rationale behind having limits on the number of objects, they seem to be a little under-estimated in my opinion. Since there is a pretty big player base already and an active modding community I suggest benchmarking the average number of objects the game can hold per MB of memory and switching from hardcoded to adaptive limits - based on the actual amount of memory a given computer has. I know this is somewhat unlikely to be implemented, but I was really disappointed I had to abandon my city half-built and decided to just put my idea up here in any case.

Kind regards.

i hit my mod and asset limit. took a while to figure out why my game was crashing at the main menu when i loaded the game up. these cities are tiny compared to SC4 and our computers are likely 10 times more powerful... let us worry about it when the game starts to lag when our cities become more complex. we can either start a new city, or build a new computer.

Well, I have a pretty minimalistic attitude towards mods and assets, I use only a handful of them (about 4-5 mods and 20 assets). The puzzling thing is that I am at about 1/3 of the other limits, while the lanes are somehow blown out of proportion ...

That's the point. I, being a programmer myself, can imagine at least a million more objects held in memory for the unused RAM I have ... but in the end I have no idea what the limitations of the engine's/CO's implementation are, so I can just suggest things.
