Hi all,

The 1.6.1 hotfix has been out as an opt-in beta over the weekend. The results of that plus our internal testing showed that it didn't introduce any new critical issues, and confirmed that it fixed several broken things in 1.6.0, so we're pushing it live for all players now:

* Fixed AI never declaring war
* Fixed egalitarian faction unhappiness wrongly being generated by having robot "slave" Pops (Issue with xenophiles is known, we will address it)
* Fixed issue with AI empires switching ethics far too frequently
* Fixed a bug allowing you to terraform planets you don't own in contested space
* Fixed wrongly stacking "was enslaved" happiness modifiers
* Fixed graphical error with Ringworld skies
* Fixed issue with War in Heaven where total occupation would not equal 100% warscore, leading to neverending war
* Added back a couple of old diplomacy rooms and fixed black background on older ones
* Fixed not being able to construct spaceports around Ringworld sections
* Fixed wrong tooltip text on Armageddon bombardment stance
* Hive Minds can now properly use Full bombardment stance
* Fixed egalitarian faction issues appearing before you have any contact with alien empires and thus no ability to fulfill them
* Devouring Swarms now properly get -1000 opinion penalty due to being, well, Devouring Swarms
* Fixed a rare crash when planetary Pops are destroyed
* Fixed crash when rebels take over a planet and defect to another empire
* Fixed missing isolationist faction issue name
* Fixed numerous missing loc strings in languages other than English and Russian
* Can now properly rename civilian ships again
* Fixed missing animation for Armageddon bombardment
* Fixed event that was endlessly firing in the background
* Fixed an issue where Xenophobe fallen empire opinion penalty for frontier outposts was calculated strangely, leading to incorrect war declarations
* Fixed primitive enlightenment failing in the early game
* Reduced AI nonsensically replacing buildings in a wasteful way, disregarding tile resources

In order to get critical bug fixes in your hands with minimal delay, necessarily the patch had to be small. But rest assured, we will continue to attack the bug count as long as I'm here, and push updates to you when they're tested and safe.

As always, if you encounter any unexpected issues with this build, you can revert to a previous version:

I've noticed that AI empires randomly terraform planets to classes that don't fit their preferred planet type (e.g. continental preference species terraforms alpine world to tundra world). It wasn't a huge problem until Ecological Adaptation was introduced, and now the AI keeps terraforming inhabited worlds for no reason. In one of my games, I used console commands to play as one of the other empires and found that they were terraforming literally every single inhabited planet (it was a small empire) away from the preferred class of the species on those planets.

Also, I don't know if this is a bug or if it's intentional, but anytime an inhabited world is terraformed, the planet's tile resources get randomized, so betharian stone power plants might be on top of food and xeno zoos on top of energy credits.

* Fixed egalitarian faction unhappiness wrongly being generated by having robot "slave" Pops (Issue with xenophiles is known, we will address it)
I already mentioned this in the thread about the beta patch, but this one doesn't seem to be fixed. The egalitarian faction still seems to consider robots to be slaves, and "Free Movement" turned red in the faction overview after I had built robots. I had to disassemble them to make the faction happy again.

Or is this a different issue?

This hotfix is a travesty. No feedback on beta reflected at all and there are several major gamebreaking bugs still present (governing ethics attraction not working, AI terraforming back and forth made much worse by the option to terraform inhabited planets, just to name a few).
I was so happy when a bugfix/qol update was promised but you released an update that broke AI wardecs. How could you miss that before release? And now this hotfix that makes uplayable game just one percet more playable.
Keep FIXING and (start) TESTING the game before the next big update you apparently have queued up already. Pretty please?

Thank you for your effort to repair the bugs as quickly as possible!
For the future: keep up the open beta test phase, it is a good direction.

Looks like I was right to hold off on my purchase of Utopia. I won't endorse a game that has had game breaking bugs in it since launch. I am so disappointed every time I come to these forums to see what the current state of the game is. There is never a time where the front page isn't full of people reporting fairly significant / game breaking bugs.

And man, it's just embarrassing to have released a patch touted to be a massive bug fixer and have it make the AI unable to declare war at all. That's fairly in your face. How did that even get through playtesting? Literally no playtesters thought it was weird that they were never war decced?

I say this as a massive fan, Paradox. Although you have bought a lot of goodwill with your games in the past (CK2 / EU4), it's starting to wear a bit thin for me, personally. Arguments aside about the complete shamelessness of your DLC model, the next X no. of patches, however many it takes to be honest, should be centred around quashing every major bug and most minor bugs that exist in your game. Make the game stable and as bug free as you can get it. Then start adding in new features again.

P.S. And yeah, charging half the price of the full game for some megastructures, slavery options and ascension perks is pretty crappy.

Hey all. Just to confirm, this is the unmodified 1.6.1 beta patch, just pushed out to 100% live so all players, including those not engaged on forums or reading news bulletins about things like beta patches, can benefit from the fixes. It is NOT the end of work on remaining unfixed issues at all. We've tracked the remaining issues and will push fixes for them when we can. No need to call for my execution just yet.

Also,

Um, bradbury beta (1.7.0) already available = probably a bug?
No, that's a new opt-in beta for an experimental multiplayer build we want to try out to ensure stability before it goes live. Same motivation as making 1.6.1 optional at first. Here's the post with the details:

I have to agree with some of the sentiment expressed here. People have raised issue with the current beta.
1) it is unclear if the devs are acknowledging the issue (and sorry given recent release state the "we know" is not doing it anymore);
2) no change has been made on the beta...

You need someone to start working on the PR. You released a mess of a patch, you coupled that with a big sale. Some people first experience with the game will be the 1.6 mess that cannot be a good thing.

-- xenophile faction is still bugged;
- sector food priority is too low early on;
- everyone bringing the pacifist in their government;
- everyone signing defense treaty so no war occurs after a while (which may be the root cause of the above);
- missile being dreadful (for player fine don't use it, but it is easy to cheese an AI that does even early game...);

Thanks for the hotfix, but I do hope we get another one and soon. GatorFanEvan's post clearly points out the same issue I and many others are also seeing in their games, where the AI (sector or other empire) will seemingly randomly terraform planets even though it is actually detrimental to the empire's inhabitants. It's not even as if this is being done in multi-species empires only where I suppose it could make some kind of sense, but even in empires where all 'citizens' have the same planetary preference, the AI will convert away from it.

Just disabling sector terraforming won't be enough, as it's crippling AI empires as much as it is the player and since the player can opt to simply not use sectors at all, this will give an advantage.
We need a proper AI fix for this.

Wiz mentioned on a Twitch stream that there was a bug causing only The Unbidden end game crisis to occur (it was related to Fallen Empires using Jump Drives or something). I think that they have said it is fixed now.

In 1.5.1, War in Heaven definitely fired for me in one game. There has to be at least 2 or 3 FEs, they have to awake, and they don't always end up causing a War in Heaven event (it's about a 40% chance?). In the 1.6.1_beta, I had two (now three) FEs awake and go to war against each other, both sides asked me to join in, but because it's a 2-on-1 AFE war, I'm not sure it's a War in Heaven event.

...

On a different topic, Paradox needs to push out a 1.6.2_beta sooner (days) rather then later (weeks) to address the remaining issues.

I still have no idea why in my militaristic, psionic oligarchy I have only one option during the elections. Also this option is some random guy instead my old leader (very much alive). I used console commands to kill this random leader and have elections just to check if there will be the same problem and yes, it is still there.

Don't misunderstand me, I love Stellaris and reallt appreciate all the work you guy's put into this game but I'm not sure if you read the beta topic before you pushed the 1.6.1 live...

A pinned "Known Issues" Thread in bug report forum would a a nice start. Let us know which bugs are already acknowledged by the team and being fixed and help the devs team avoid duplicated reports...

In my experience you can have a war in heaven if you have FE with conflicting ethos, like xenophobes and xenophiles.
