Anyways does the Groombridge still belong to us?
The Galactic map still lists it as "Human Controlled", yes.

Also, what is the threshold for treaties?
No-one seems to know. Even the Wiki doesn't know. I think it depends on too many factors, such as their "hidden" end of the attitude score, and their hidden "Xenophobia" score.
@meanmanturbo : I could make you Governor of the Asteroid Mine that we're planning to open, or make you a scientist working on Logistics and Ground Combat applications (unfortunately we never received a Construction and Production specialist), or you could take the role-play position of Economic/Production adviser on the Council.
And a spelling nazi anecdote. It's Schuermann, not Schwuermann

You'll get it right one of these days, old man
Owing to war-time shortages, Schwuermann has run out of "w"s and is now Schuermann.
Is it possible to bolt a mass driver on a ship, and use that as a massive bombard against planets? Can the parcels so shot be blocked with anti ship / anti missile missiles? What would the effects of such attack be?
Nope, no Mass Drivers on ships. Not sure if you can put them on Space Stations, either. We have Rail Guns and such, but our tech sucks. We're much better off using Missiles for the moment. At least we've got fairly good ones.
Did the explorers get the recognition they deserve? During all the excitement they seem to have discover oodles of orbiting bodies.
Schuermann got an Alien Contact medal. I was planning to give our most productive scouts (such as Schuermann, Rackham, Billy Bob, etc) first crack at a warship... that's recognition of a sort.
Is that your Awacs design? If so, why no passive EM sensors?
Our passive EM sensor tech sucks, at the moment. It's hardly worth allocating tonnage for it, especially in such a tight-fitting build.
How viable in the relative short term is further research into terraforming? Perhaps it would be better to turtle somewhat and focus on planets that are closer to Earth for more efficient and rapid development. Is it possible to terraform planets such as Venus for example?
Unfortunately, most of the attractive habitable planets are in the same direction as the Charlies, and can all be cut off if we lose the Ross 248 system (which is adjacent to that scary Charlie contact).
I am dividing the scouts into two "teams"... one team to feel around the flanks of Charlie, and the other to explore in the exact opposite directiion, attempting to find worlds that Charlie doesn't threaten.
