Huzzah!

I'm pretty dure we haven't fought one of those yet, even if we've identified it already. I'll be interested to see what it was.

Yeah, I think we'd remember if we had fought one of THOSE before. Tough guy...

Damn... I hope those guys don't come in bigger groups.

Then again, if it was a missile ship, our point defences are so good these days that I'd be rather confident about surviving even if it could get to firing range.

It's hard to say... since we started using these Constellation class Carriers, no hostile ship has ever survived long enough to launch a missile at us. Not that I recall, anyway.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Our point defence is theoretically good, but not battle-tested.

Added to that, anything that does get through our fighter strikes is either going to be technologically advanced, numerous, or both.

And we have a Third Fleet now? When did that happen?

It's the transports etc, not another battlefleet.

Yes... Third Fleet is our siege train: eight Troop Transports, two Drop Ships, four Assault Carriers (two loaded with Assault Shuttles, one with Boarding Shuttles, one with Strike Fighters for fleet protection), one Monitor, one Battle Management vessel, three fast Minelayer/Monitor conversions, one Ammo vessel, two Gauss PD vessels.

Two Planetary Defense Complexes have been spotted on Gliese 250 A-II... a Yesu and an Aimak.

G198_Prix.jpg

Does anyone remember which is which? Which one is the PD installation?

EDIT: OK, looking back to post 5342, it seems to be the Yesu that is the PD installation, unless they just providentially ran out of PD rounds just as the Yesu got knocked out. We will concentrate fire on the Yesu.

Ah, It's been so long since I've checked in with this thread! I'm catching up now... where is Konstantin now, may I ask?

CO Fleet Carrier ESN Cassiopeia. He is part of Second Fleet, and is involved in the current battle.

We are facing roughly the same defense on Gliese 250 A-II as we faced on El Dorado in the Wolf 294 system... the same two PDC installations, Yesu and Aimak. Anyone who has been following the thread closely may recall that it took roughly 2000 missiles to crack that defense by stand-off bombardment last time. On this occasion, we will try a massed Fighter strike, aiming to knock out the Yesu point defense PDC by a concentrated attack by all 153 Strike Fighters, leaving the other vulnerable to close-range bombardment by the fleet.

Missiles launched at 54 m-km. No sign that they've spotted us yet.

G200_Prix.jpg

EDIT:

Yesu destroyed. Now to try and take out the other one... After engaging the three earlier targets (including one that required 93 missiles to take down), I'm out of Aircraft missiles... I can either redistribute some missiles from our Cruisers to reload the Fighters for another attack, or bring the Cruisers in to gun the remaining PDC down in an old-fashioned gunnery duel.

EDIT:

My bad... after transferring in the last of the spare rounds on the ESN Bounty ammo vessel, the Carriers do in fact have enough reloads left for one more Fighter strike, without taking any of the Cruisers' load-out. One more strike it is.

Did any of your missiles get intercepted?

hmm, missiles. You never seem to have brought enough. I'm surprised you only have one ammo vessel, right now my fleet is running around with 4 of them and it -still- doesn't feel like it's enough.

As an example, after a fight against an NPR I used about 1500 missiles to take out a fleet of about 15 ships. They started fleeing, so I persued .. right into the arms of a 28-ship second fleet that apparently was not that far behind the first one. Auch.
Good thing that my fleet runs faster. Now I just hope I have enough missiles in the stockpile to come back and win this :p

As an aside, can we get the specs for the current generation of Storm class PD vessels?

Not in the battle vs the PDCs. The Yesu never turned on its active sensor. I guess it only flips it on after detecting an enemy or seeing a Prix ship attacked... and my first strike was 153 missiles, killing it instantly.

I've got three ammo vessels, but that's only one per fleet. I certainly need more, and will build more as soon as I have a free slipway.

The Storms are unchanged from the initial design, except for Engine and Fuel Tankage upgrades. However, we have research projects due to complete in a few months that will allow a great increase in their capabilities.

Myeah, I have no idea where to find the post describing them in this thread though. If you hadn't noticed, it's kinda large .. :p

Aimak destroyed.

I was wrong... it's the Aimak, not the Yesu, that is the point defense PDC. It shot down half of our Fighter's missile salvos before they could close on it. Fortunately, the remaining sixty-odd missiles that penetrated the PD screen were enough to smash it to junk.

It's nice to know that a full-up Fighter strike can indeed bull its way through the Prix point defense and knock out the PD PDC in a single attack.

Our fleet then closed in on the A-II planet to look it over, and at 21 m-km they spotted a salvo of eight size-24 missiles idling in orbit around the planet. We are taking them on with long-range fire from our anti-Fighter defenses (our rebuilt Star-III class Destroyer Escorts).

EDIT:

Enemy missile salvo destroyed.

Still in the Gliese 250 system... we've spotted another of those damned Chakhar snoopers  We'll pull the usual anti-snooper stunt: sneak up on it with our sensors off, and try to surprise it.

G201_Prix.jpg

Christ, there are a lot of enemy ships in this system... we're running seriously, SERIOUSLY short of missiles. Perhaps the planet will turn out to be another El Dorado?
