I get the same impression... these dudes are not advanced enough to be the expansionist NPR. Probably just a minor NPR that was set off by Charlie, the Chix or the Seals.

Are you telling me that each time a nation discover a nice world, it runs the 33% chance, or is it just you?

Pretty sure it applies to the first race to enter the new system. The system itself is "generated" at that point, with planets, mineral concentrations, and possible occupants.

Won't different races have different planet classifications? Humans may use oxygen to breathe and
prefer 20ish degrees centigrade but for all we know these guys could use nitrogen and prefer 150 degrees. How does the game handle that ?

Not sure... but most of the minors that we've found so far (Charlies, Seals, Chix and Belizards) were all on Class-0 worlds, as far as I recall. The Charlies might have been on a Class-2 world instead. The Prix seem to favor Class-2 worlds.

Every time an exploring race discovers a new system that no one else has discovered before. It wouldn't make sense for the Charlies to spawn a new alien race in a system we've already been to 10 years earlier.
All this is decided at system creation, as Blue Emu said.

I also agree with Belisarious: usually, when you meet the Swarm, you know it's them.

All races in the game are either oxygen or methane breathers

Assuming the same routine is used to generate a new NPR as when you create non-human race in Spacemaster mode (which I think is likely) then ideal gravity, temperature and oxygen pressure is set to be equal to their home world, the width of the tolerance corridors is randomly decided I think, however certain preconditions must be met

- There must be some oxygen in the atmosphere, but less than 30% (not 100% sure about the latter part)
- There must not be any dangerous gasses like chlorine and so on

Also I believe planets with oxygen atmosphere only occur at similarish distances to their stars as the Earth

What all this mean is that any planet where an oxygen breathing NPR can appear will be fairly similar to our Earth

A fourth Kirei Na Niwa ship... again, apparently a scout... has been spotted in the Ross 248 system. I am sending that half of the fleet over to squash some nearby Prix, and replacing it in Ross 248 with the other half of the fleet.

The last of our Attitude-II class Light Cruisers has finished refitting to Attitude-III... a vast improvement in design, with thicker armor, improved shields, heavier armament (four size-6 tubes instead of four size-4 tubes), bigger magazines, much improved sensors and fire controls, greatly increased speed (nearly double), and increased fuel storage using the new Alien-tech Compressed Fuel Storage.

I have designed a new non-jump-capable version of the Attitude, named Attitude-III-NJ; and by happy chance, the Yard does not even need to retool in order to switch production to the new model. The first three have already been laid down: ESN Frenzy, ESN Berserk and ESN Homicidal. They feature doubled offensive armament (eight size-6 tubes instead of four, under two FCs instead of one), 50% larger magazine storage, an upgraded CIWS and an extra layer of armor... all on the same displacement as the standard jump-capable Attitude-III.

Isn't Homicide the killing of humans? Therefore it should be xenocide or something like that.

Good point... although we've killed a few Humans as well. Count Lake, for example. I killed him myself, after the Prix ship picked him up. I suppose that a good defense attourney could argue "self defense" or "death by misadventure" instead of homicide.

Should I change it to "Xenocidal".

A Khan and four Bekis encountered in the Lacaille 9352 system.

I didn't bring any Rocks along this time, so perhaps we'll see how well our Gauss PD Frigates do against Prix missiles.

EDIT:

Closing at 1 m-km per minute. We will launch Fighters at 700 m-km.

Is one of those the ones that fire off the size one missles?

IIRC, the Khan fires a crapload of size-4 missiles, then has to go home to reload. Don't recall what armament the Beki carries, except that we salvaged some Railguns from a wreck.. Hopefully, they'll never get within firing range.

Range 698 m-km. Launching Fighters. We'll hit the Khan and two Bekis with the Alpha-Strike.

Missiles launched at 43 m-km. A rather ragged volley... I neglected to sync fire. Hopefully it won't make much difference.

I'll hang around the target area while the missiles run in, then head back for a reload.
